Whelping Break???

Post by Wilkerson Boys »

I have had females have most of her pups and later unexpectedly have another. Have you had females have 4 pups and have others, (2 or 3) 24 hrs. or so later? My female had 4 about 3:30 this am and has 1 to ? left in her. She is not in pain and seems to be content with taking care of those that are born. :?: Wayne

36 hrs. later after the 1st was born she had 3 more pups in her. A small one had decided to stretch his legs and got hung up in the canal. Two more big uns stayed behind. Got them cut out and 2 big uns alive. One did not have a sign of a tail? Cool I thought. His other tail was missing too! Not so cool. $460 Just thought it may help someone down the rd. with same question. Mom and 5 pups ok. ;) Wayne

Just got home from work and found 8 wigglers in the box. Gave 2cc pen g & 1/2 cc oxytocin. I'll check in the morning for ifin there"s any more... ;)
Boy, this weather broke just in time. This is the way I like'um, come home and there they are...
Never had one go for that long a spell and then deliver a live pup. After a c-section, it's good to watch that mama takes to the pups ok. I've took'um home and had the bitch eat'um after I'd went to the house. Guess she didn't realize or know, what or where they came from...
Best of luck with your pups... ;)

I'm not sure if this applies or not, and I'm glad all of your pups are accounted for, but if this would happen again, I would keep an extra close watch on your female. We've had friends (two totally unrelated situations) where pups got hung up coming out, ended up dying and becoming toxic. The female died and so did all of the pups.
Happiness is owning a beagle...or seven.

That is true Tricolor. I to have had friends go through the same thing and loose good females. This female acted normal with the pup hung and showed no sign of pain or labor? But I thought those pups were there, but just doubted my thought. Best to have took her on to the vet. sooner. Bottom line is if something just don't look right during birth take them on to the professional. Thanks for replies. ;) Wayne
