Limping?

Post by SilverBullet »

I have an 11 month old male thats been limping for the past two weeks. It started out as almost nothing and is getting progressively worse. Its always on the left rear leg, and every few steps, he'll pick it up and then put it down again. It doesn't seem to be hurting or ever really bothering him.
Funny thing is, he ONLY does it when he's walking briskly ... between a run & a walk. If he's running or just walking at a normal pace, no limp.
I had his knees checked by a vet back in Feb/March and the vet said they were in tight. I also don't know if it means anything, but a few months ago he cut open a paw pad on glass. It healed up in a week with soem Bag Balm, but I'm wondering now if that could somehow be connected to this limp?
He's going to the vet in a few days anyway but thought I'd ask around if anyone knew what could be causing this.
Thanks ...

Maybe he injured his cruciate ligament???

Anytime we notice a limp and a dog acting "down" I get a lyme test run!
My husbands had Lyme disease twice and one of our beagles has had it once. Nasty it is! Dog and hubby both doing fine...

Had Moose at the vet on Sat. First thing the vet did was palpate the left knee, then compared it to the right. He also rotated both hips and palpated for an ACL injury. Everything felt normal and in place to him and Moose showed no signs of discomfort or pain during this process, except you shoulda seen the look on his face!!!
Verdict is that its probably just Pano. I'm feeding a hi protein food plus he just had a rapid growth spurt. Vet says hes at the classic age to get this (11 months). Should clear up with a lower protein food. If it doesn't I will definitely get him checked for Lymes.
Thanks for the help......

I had a male not too long ago that was limping on his back leg very much like you described. i never saw him injure it, the vet checked him over. said nothing was broken or even swollen for that matter. well at the same time he had a bad urinary tract infection that turned into a kidney infection(I think is how the vet described it) and after two weeks of antibiotics for that...............the limping slowly went away. kind of a mystery, but I guess there was a chance the two were related somehow.
