This may be a dumb question but has big ben ever been DNA"D just wondering how much study has been done into this to see how he would cross with some of my females if I had a dna on them. If they have studied it enough to know what percentage of the pups would carry what genes.

I don't know how well certain genes have been isolated in dogs for such a thing to happen, and even if you could identify genes in dogs, I don't know if you could tell if they were dominant or recessive genes. The only way I know to judge compatibility between a bitch and a stud is to gain experience from observing their lines and crosses and see what happened with those.

I do know companies in throughbred horse racing who try to recommend which stud horses and lines to breed a mare to. However, it's based on physical conformation, historical data of crosses, success of close relatives, etc. None of it is based on DNA samples. Considering how much money there is in that industry, if they could use DNA to do such a thing, they'd be doing it.

I think that the only thing DNA testing can do right now in the canine world is confirm that a puppy is out of a given bitch and given stud.
