EAR INFECTION?

Post by K C »

I HAVE OWNED THIS DOG FOR MORE THAN FOUR YEARS AND UP UNTIL THE LAST TWO WEEKS HE HAS NEVER DONE THIS. BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN HE IS HAVING A PROBLEM JUMPING RABBITS AND THEN HE SEEMS THAT HE IS NOT ABLE TO SMELL CORRECTLY. I TOOK HIM TO A RETIRED VET AND HE TOLD ME HE HAD A EAR INFECTION AND THAT WAS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS EVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM BEFORE. THANKS IN ADVANCE

I guess it kind of makes sense. If the infection bothers him enough, he will not be concentrating on hunting, but trying to get "whatever is in his ear out". If the my dogs ever start scratching at their ears or start rubbing them on the ground, the first thing I do is look inside. If it is red, then a trip to the vet for anitbiotics is in order.

This may sound odd, but we had a 2-for-1 deal a while back, the "freebie" was a grade (fixed) male with CHRONIC ear infections. I tried all kinds of treatments, as he came here "just off panalog" the "normal" treatment per vet visit.
I tried a product from my local farm store (Rural King) its called foot rot treatment
made by Dionne products
contains Iodine and parachlorometaxylenol
I used this liquid three times a week, and after applying (and the head shaking) I sprayed a good shot of Cut Heal's Multicare Wound Powder into each ear.
after 3 weeks, I had no redness, headshaking, or black icky tar in the ears.
I reduced treatment to once a week and stopped completely at the end 6 weeks.
Dog was free & clear, now I do a maintenance dose once a month, no troubles.
