Have any of you experienced cherry eye in your beagles? How much of a problem is it? Is it genetically transmitted? Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a pup with it atm. Vet says it's very likely the other eye will do the same. I'm going to have the good surgery done. Where they basically nip and tuck it instead of removal. They can do it on both eyes even if one hasn't swollen up yet. It's costs more but I do not want to have to put drops in a dogs eyes all the time to save a few bucks at the start.

I cut them out myself. They are better in 2 days, it only takesabout 1 minute if you have somebody hold the dog.

removal of cherry eye not a good plan...?

May be genetic, but can also occur from infection/inflammation in the eyes early on. Best to have them replaced rather than removed. The gland of the third eyelid produces a portion of the tears and also acts as part of the immune system for the eye.
