Oak Hill & TC are correct,

PETa doesn't want you quiet, they want you out, as in "out of the game".
It has become clear, they are not animals lovers, but people haters.

They are going against fishing & shooting in the UK as we speak.

No battle was ever won by retreating to the rear. Silence allows the cancer to grow, well informed knowledge is your best defence.

What right do we have to complain, if your willing to close the mouth that spreads the truth, for fear of upsetting the ignorant...Patch

Hey Patch. I'm with ya on the fight.. Its understanding the enemy goals thats going over everybody here. They will turn a minor dew claw removal into a major mess that these yuppys in our country don't understand. You all sound real tough on the key board here, but public opinion is what will win this animal rights fight. Your clubs are falling apart because not many people do this any more. My club has 5 show up for meetings out of 20 members, gee I wonder whats wrong here???? Like I said , I'm new at this but I ain't goinnnn anywhere. Don't try to tell me its any better anywhere else in the country either!!!!!!

Hey Chief,

Don't know what hole your sitting in, but you need to get out and smell the roses.
I won't tell you our club is growing, cause you've already made up your mind about how things are.
What we've found is that going back to what we started for, was our salvation. We were a bunch of rabbit hunters that come together to enjoy each others company and run dawgs. Over time, it became to competitive and political, and alot of the fun was lost. We're going back to get-to-gathers and fun running again and people are happier and new members are joining. My suggestion is for your club to do something to put the fun back in, that got the club started in the first place.

Most of the people that support Peta don't know what their agenda is either. They think they(peta) want to protect their pets from harm, but in reality, they(peta) don't want you to have pets.

I think it is YOU that has the problem with the dew claw removal, as the picture you paint is nothing of the reality of it.

One thing I can't figure out, if the sport is dieing, where the heck are all these pups for sale on the board going?

As far a keeping keeping quiet, they did that with the queers and now look at the immoral mess we have, so I'm sure that is not the answer.
I think this Country will go through great suffering before things are righted again. The lessons learned have mostly been forgotten, so now the cycle starts again.

"When right has become wrong, and wrong has become a right, you better buckle up, for we're in for a ride..."
Best of luck...Patch

Hey Patch,
What started this off is not my pups dew claws, although the vet has told me its a simple procedure even at a later date. I work around a shop full of hunters and when I showed this thread to them they freaked out. The part about the vet doing the procedure is fine but to think about people doing it in their basement or garage with clippers, most of them couldn't believe it. Now what do you think Joe smuck off the steets going to think?? Next time I'll keep my mouth shut cause I can see none of you want to disagreeeee about anything...

Hey Chief,

No problem brother, what we do is the same thing the vet does.
In the puppy less than a week old, the bone in the toe has not hardened and is more like a cartilage than a bone. If you have the stomach, a pair of toenail clippers will do fine or you can get the hemastats like samlyn, to do the job. Put the toe in the nipper flush with the leg and one pinch and your done. Put the pup back with mama and it starts to suck and shows no distress.

I don't like taking puppies to the vet., thats where sick dogs go.

I consider this task the same as worming and giving puppy shots. A part of ensuring a healthy problem free puppy. Something I can do and not expose the pups to all the sickness at the vet's office.

It's no problem bro, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, go to the vet, that's what their there for.
I wasn't comfortable the first time I had to clean a cow, but the vet was unavailable and infection sets in quick if you don't get the job done. A old farmer was on hand to talk me through it, after we were done, we gave a shot of penicillin and left her with her calf. We've done many since that day, not a pleasant task but need be done just the same. That's the problem, people who don't know country life, they want to dictate what's proper. They don't want to go to the trouble to learn, just, if it sounds ucky, then they shouldn't be doing it...lol

Best of luck to you and the boys in the shop, keep reading, maybe you'll learn something you can use at home ;) ...Patch

Have any of you ever used fishing line to tie around it and cut the circulation off, like banding a bull?

Hotdog,

The important thing is to get it at the joint where no bone will develop to create a stub. Me personally, I want to nip it close and even with the leg. My eyes & fingers would not allow me to do a sure job using the string, I'm afraid. I don't want any do-overs that the vet may have to correct. jmho ;) ...Patch
