I just wanted to give yooall an update on my bloody tail deal. After talkin to sev guys, I decided to not dock her tail, for now. I talked to a neighbor of mine who has a couple of setters & is a big quail & pheasant hunter, He said to try the duct tape. The EMT Gel is cool stuff & he wouldn't be without it. It is REALLY sticky & works great. Another thing every dog guy should have is duct tape. They even use it for dog boots when they're feet are sore. I went to wal-Mart to get duct tape as I was out, & I found the coolest duct tape. It's BLAZE ORANGE & it's GREAT in the brush for spottin a dog! I didn't have any prob. last weekend with her tail, but I was'nt in really rough country, with locust trees & thorns & etc. like I was when her tail broke open. So it might be a good idea to have EMT Gel & duct tape with youwhen you're huntin!

It's when you place a band --like a rubber band-- around something --end of the tail, testicles-- tightly so that the tissue above the band basically dies and falls off. It sounds barbaric, but it isn't as bad as it sounds.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten that you can do that to a tail also- If I remember right, You're supposed to put the band on a joint in the tail- Is that right?

Between the joints, I think. I've never done it myself, but I've known guys that do it a lot--especially down south. And I've read about it before on here several times.

I can only hunt on the weekends, so on Sat., before I turn her out, I put 2 pieces about 3 or4 " long side by side, & then I wrap the end of her tail up. It will usually stay on all weekend (she don't try to pull it off). But sometimes it will get a little raggid, & then it wants to catch on somethin. I've had to rescue her a time or 2 when it catches on somethin like a barb wire fence or a locust tree. Sometimes it pulls off when that happens. On Sun., when we're done, the easiest way to get it off is to slit the tape with a pair of scissors. Yeah, it will take some hair off, but it don't bother her. But it don't take as much hair off as you might think. It's better than her bleedin all over.
