I should probably start another thread for this but, I wonder if anyone has fly problems? We are surrounded by horses and of course I have about 15 dogs. During the summer months it can get pretty heavy with flies but, last year I ordered the natural fly preditors from http://www.spalding-labs.com/home.php They are very small wasps that eat fly larva and I literally had no fly problem last year. Its about 20.00 a month for the amount I need and it worked like a charm!!

Ive used Sevin dust for a long time and only had one problem with it so far.
I had a dog have an allergic reaction to it. He started scratching so I took him to the vet. The vet said that he had an allergic reaction to somethin g (Im assuming it was the sevin dust) and scratched it and got a staph infection.
He gave him a shot for the itching and some antibiotics for the infection and everything healed up.
After that I started only putting it in their house instead on directly on the dogs and I havent had any more problems with reactions or fleas or ticks either.

Several years ago we had a couple coon hounds that had runny noses and their ears were giving them problems .My dad took them to the vet because they could'nt seem to smell a track. The first question the vet ask was if we used sevin dust and when my dad replied yes the vet told him to stop and remove all the dogs bedding and replace it with new. This did fix the problem, but since then we have gone back to using sevin just not in the bedding or on the dog .We sprinkle it around the kennel and use frontline on the dogs. The vet told use to never put sevin dust in a dog box it could poision the dog.(Because the dog would breath the dust)
Just passing along a little first hand knowledge.

I'm not sure but you could ask the company. They actually lay their eggs where fly maggots are and the offspring eat the maggots. You never see them once they are released. Ive released 1000's here and never seen one. I hope they wintered over but, I'll be starting with monthly shipments again in may.Pine MT Beagle Runner wrote:WAY COOL!!! I had seen these small flies around from time to time but had no idea what they were. Any idea if they have any impact on deer flies?

I've been using Sevin Dust for about 3-4 years without a problem. That being said, however, I do not use it directly on the hounds or IN their doghouse/bedding. What I'll normally do is sprinkle a generous amount UNDER the doghouse, and this has drastically reduced the population of HUGE, disgusting, spiders that were causing me grief every summer. I sprinkle it around the yard, though, but this has not effected the dogs in any way. I credit it for nixing the flea problem my neighbor's infested dog created.
For fleas ON the dog, I give either raw, crushed garlic several times weekly or two brewer's yeast w/ garlic tablets daily. We have not had fleas in years, and I do not use any chemical flea control product on the dogs. The one time I did, a few years back, I used Bio Spot with great success though. Tried Frontline Plus from my Vet, and it burned my pup badly
She had no reaction to the Bip Spot ...
