If you have a Tractor Supply store near you they will have it...if not, check with any place that supplies horses and cattle. I used 1/10th of a cc on the initial dose and treated again two weeks later with the same dose. Ivomec works well on other parasites, so even if they don't have Sarcoptic Mange it should benefit them on worms....Tony

You can get it at about any feed store. Or online http://www.revivalanimal.com I give 1/10th of a cc (use a insulin syringe) for puppies or adults. Its a safe medication except for collies or some herding breeds. inject it SubQ. Its thick and hard to draw up and does sting so, the puppies will cry and scratch at it a little.Big_Daddys_Outlaws wrote:so where is the best place to get the Ivomec and what dosage should I give a pup that weighs about 4 lbs or so

I prefer to inject it when I am dealing with mites. I do give it orally for heartworm protection and earmites. You really can't overdose if you just give them a couple of drops. Its safe. If I use a CC syringe I just inject what I think is a 1/10th of a CC I have never felt the need to measure it extremely accurate since studies have been done with high dosages and no harm has been done to the animals tested. I think with cows they gave over 100 X the dosage and there were no adverse effects.

a ml is = to a cc. They are the same measurement.
A good way (almost 100% guarenteed) to tell if they have sarcoptic mange is, pinch the ear flap between your thumb and forefinger. Gently, using your forfinger, scratch the inside of the ear flap. This should elicit a reflex in the rear leg (on the same side) making a scratching motion toward the ear.
Sarcoptic mange is only detected about 50% of the time in a scraping because they live mainly under the skin. Deep scrapings, done repeated, usually will provide a positive result, but the ear scratching test is almost fool-proof. It will also be accompanied by a "frito" smell. This comes for an excess production of yeast by the skin, in response to the sebacceous glands being disrupted. If you notice an odor similar to old frito's and the hair seems a bit oily, this is typical of the yeast infection that will accompany sarcoptic mange. Vinager rinses will help in cotrolling this.
These pictures absolutely do appear to be a sarcoptic infestation in it's early stages. If you let it go on, it can cause scarring and in some cases, can be fatal. The antibiotics are a good way to prevent secondary infections that are caused by the scratching and should be continued.
The dosage that I've seen to be effective on young pups is, 3/10ml/cc per 10lbs subQ, given at 7 day intervals for 3 weeks, but your vet can advise you on the proper dosage.
