What does this SafeGuard or Panacur treat for? I also noticed that Doc doses his dogs only twice a year and another said something about monthly?? This is from another post I made before reading this thread. I believe this is how it was spelled LEVASOLE . It is a sheep wormer. I have heard you can use it as a all around wormer for dogs(even heartworm preventative). Does anyone currently use this? Or can Doc S approve its use? (just want to make sure it won't harm dogs.) Thanks, Paul

Hunter,
I generally use fenbendazole twice a year, but then I try to have top notch cleanliness in the kennel and I 99 times out of 100 run by myself. The average Joe would do well to use fenbendazole quarterly...monthly would be overkill.
I am not so sure about Levamisole. It is a pretty old dewormer, and most heartworm preventative claims have been long since dropped.
Hope this helped,

Sorry to bug you again but I did not see exactly what this Safe Guard wormer is for. Is it for everything or just certain worms? If it does not cover heartworms what is a good inexpensive alternative? Thanks in advance, Paul

Fenbendazole will take care of hookworms, whipworms, roundworms, and about half the various species of tapeworms. Many folks use ivermectin oral monthly at 0.1ml per 11# bodyweight for heartworm prevention.
