My female just had a litter of seven today. She has a lot of swelling at the location of her two right rear teats. This is her first litter and she seems to be doing great with the whole process. What should I do? Let the pups nurse or keep them away from the potentially tainted milk? Is there antibiotics that will be effective? What is best for the mother and the pups?
Any help will be appreciated until I can have her checked by a vet!
Thanks Kandog
Kannon Kennels is located in Northeast Ohio. I've been breeding Beagles for almost 40 years.
Ive got alot of Jack of All Trades in my pedigrees, although I look for good quality in out crossing.
Let the pups nurse. If it is in fact mastitis, there should be nothing wrong with the milk. When human mothers get it, my wife (MD) recommends to keep breast feeding.

I had a bitch who had the same thing happen last week. They were even starting to get a bit on the hard side. It is engourgement. After a few days it let up. It is from all the milk dropping down.
