lost a toe nail
Our gyp lost a toe nail this morning hunting. I had noticed her licking her paws and didn't think much of it. When we were checking her over before loading up a toe nail on her front paw is completely missing. You can see the hole where the nail is supposed to go. We've cleaned the wound and put neosporin on it. She's isolated in an above ground kennel to keep dirt out. Any other suggestions?

Soak her foot in Epsom salt twice a day for 10-15 minutes. It makes a big difference. We've had several rip their toe nails out completely and they regrew the nail completely.

How long did it keep them laid up? She seems to be doing fine except favoring that paw.

I had the same thing happen it took a couple of weeks to heal up. I did the same thing soaked the foot in epsom salt, made the dog stand in a tub of warm water for about 20 to 30 min couple times a day. Then I wrapped foot w/ gauze then with vet wrap to keep it protected from germs and help with the pain.
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
