help asap!!!!!!

i bought a female beagle the other day that is a grade dog and it looked pitiful.so pitiful i had to buy it and try to nurse it back to health.it has some hair loss on its back. has a lot of flea bites but the recent owner got rid of the fleas. and on its underside it has red dots all over its skin.then i was petting on her and she has red gunk stuff on her skin near the hair loss.i am going to take her to the vet but i still want some suggestions on treatments to help her thanks.

First off I would give the dog an oatmeal shampoo bath that will relieve some of the itching. Here is a site that I have been reading a lot about bugs and a chemical free way to get rid of bugs. http://www.earthworkshealth.com/pets-animals.php I bought some of this stuff cause I thought my chickens had bugs and I have 2 beagles in the house and they got fleas I seemed to not be able to get rid of the sob's so when I was looking for something to use on the chickens for lice that I could still use the eggs after using the stuff I found this site. I used this stuff and NO MORE bugs! It is cheap and it is chemical free. I don't have to worry now what the stuff is doing to their body or mine if I eat and egg that has been exposed to chemicals and I don't have to smell the nasty chemicals in the house after dusting my dog the fleas were gone with in a couple of days, so far they have not come back.

I would agree you do need to take the dog to the vet for the dog probably has a skin infection. I would make sure you wash your hands real good so you don't get a cootie or another one of your dogs don't either till you can get the dog on a good antibiotic. Since there is so many strains of bacteria and some antibiotics don't work on some where other antibiotics do would be best to get the proper diagnosis, but try the shampoo and get you some of that dirt, you will be impressed as I am.

You can get a basic dandruff shampoo like Head & Shoulders and add a capful of tea tree oil to it.

Head & Shoulders has Zinc pyrithione in it, which is an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. Tea tree oil can by purchased at any WalMart for about $5 and is an invaluable product to have for any dogman. The tea tree oil is itself bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal, being one of the strongest natural antiseptics known to man. Even better, tea tree oil also has nerve-deadening properties which block pain, stinging, and itching caused by all forms of skin problems (dermatitis, wounds, rashes, poison ivy/oak, insect bites, etc.). And, finally, tea tree oil has a "refreshing" smell that will remove some of the associated bad odor away too.

Therefore, if you give this dog a bath, use Head & Shoulders and add a capful of tea tree oil to it, and your dog will come out feeling (and smelling!) a lot better too.

If you are looking for a cheap antibiotic to give, cephalexin is the #1 choice for most types of pyoderma (skin infections) and can be bought over the counter (labeled for fish) in a product called Fish Flex sold in any of the vet supply companies online (KV Vet, Lambert Vet, etc.). Dosage is 10mg/lb, given 3x/day (or ev. 8 hrs.)

But make sure you're feeding her a truly good food ... no wheats, corns, glutens, etc. ... as most skin problems are simply the result of a person feeding cheap, low-grade kibble. It would be impossible to count the number of dogs who suffer through incredible skin and health problems, all because their owner feeds them cheap kibbles they can't process properly, that literally and progressively break-down their health ...
