swollen head

Post by 2500 HD »

I have a young male that has his head, bottom jaw, side of his face swelling up. His collar is still loose around his neck, but his head is almost dbl the size. He has not been run because of deer season. He was kenneled with a 8 month old dog until I noticed a small hard lump along his lower Jaw Thurs. evening. I seperated them. By Sunday morning his head was huge. Vet clinnics are closed today because of the weather. I had surgery on my hand so I can't inspect the inside of his mouth decent. Does it sound like he may have been bit by the young dog, or maybe a bad tooth absess??? Any help would be great. He is eating and acts fairly normal, except for excessive drooling from obvious pain. Even his lipps are swollen. Thanks Ken

I would guess he has a straw splinter and is allergic.

If you changed his bedding change it to some nice dry Oak leaves or something like that.Id say the dog needs to see a Vet, antibiotics for sure.

Actually I don't use any bedding, my houses are insulated and heated with a 75 watt light bulb in a hay mow light fixture( Heavy glass globe and heavy wire cage, completly sealed). I took him to the vet yesterday and found out he had a plugged salivia gland. He had no temp. and the affected area was not wam. After some meds. a few hours later it popped and the liquid was clear and oderless. I felt the vet teated me fair $61 meds and all. Thanks guys.
