Aspiration Pneumonia
My champion field trialing dog has been diagnosed with possibly having aspiration pneumonia. Has anyone had any personal knowledge of this condition? She is currently under a specialized vets care but I wondered if there is any chance that she will be able to adequately recover from this condition to be able to get back into the field and hunt; even if it is not as a field trialer. She lives to hunt and it breaks my heart to think that she may not be able to do it again. Any insite you have on this medical condition would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Aspiration Pneumonia
Aspiration pneumonia is caused by food going into the lungs which causes a bacterial infection. Treatment is usually antibiotics. My knowledge is limited to human difficulties swallowing food. If that's the cause, she may need to go on a different diet to keep her from aspirating. Talk to your vet before you take her out in the field. The pneumonia could hurt her respiration and running on a hunt would be detrimental. Good luck!
