She's losing her hair on her coat
I've got a female and she is losing hair on the sides of her body. What can I do to help her. I felt her coat kind of feels sticky almost. She is 5 years old and over a weeks time its getting worse.
Any ideas what I can do.

Dogs will blow their coats from time to time. Is she itching??? Any sores??? Put her on a good vitamin like pet tabs. She will get it back if she doesn't have something else going on.

no I don't see any sores. You can see her white skin though. No blood or scabs of any kind. its both side of her body stomach area. you can see alot of her skin. It doesn't look normal.
Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
would fish oil pills help? or giving her a few eggs thru out the week?
Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
yes it would help.
I had a bitch one time they blew her coat after having pups. 2 months after weaning she still had not alot of hair. I called my vet. She said give her some vitamins. Hormonal change will cause them to loose their coats. But good vitamins will help them get it back faster. Fish oil has the amino 3 in it and helps with the coat. I gave her one pet tab a day in a few days her coat started coming back.
Make sure you get the ones without calcium.

If none of the above helps you may want the vet to test for low thyroid. All the vet did was draw some blood and they were able to make the determination while I waited.
A months supply of pills is less than $10.
My female had the exact same symptoms you are describing.
Good Luck!

what other symptoms did you notice with your dog? and I googled blowing coats out and she may be doing that aswell. its is spring time and we did have a little warm spell. my other dogs look good. she is the only one.
i picked up fish oil pills 1760 with omega 3 on my lnuch break. on my way home i'm stopping by pet-co for some pet tabs.
Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
I gave her a good warm bath with some dog shampoo to clean her coat. She seemed to like that. I picked up PET TABS at pet co and I got the fish oil. We'll see what happens in one week from today
Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
My vet warned me that as a result of low thyroid the dog is more vulnerable to weight gain. But, she wasn't heavy during the ordeal and her weight has stayed the same. She is about 25 - 30 pounds.
Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
i shampooed her good the other day. been giving her 2eggs a day. one pet tab and one fish oil pill. 2cups of blk Gold blk bag her coat is improving daily. not sure what the deal is or was but she is looking better as of now. we'll see what happens.Brimtucky wrote:My vet warned me that as a result of low thyroid the dog is more vulnerable to weight gain. the guy at pet-co when i bought the pet-tabs told me could be low thyroid.
Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
So what was in the fish oil tabs, and the pet tabs? Not to look like a dumb
but how much of what? I have 2 gyps thats coats har dull and sheading. not horrible, but i dont like it. i have a 5 month old pup that is just as shiney as a new penny. looking to make the girls look good! and feel good.

Re: She's losing her hair on her coat
Fish oil has the omega 3 in it which is good for the skin and coat. Pet tabs are just vitamins just in case a hound is low in something. I buy cod liver oil by the gallon and put it in a squirt bottle and put it on their feed at least once a week. Don't give them vitamins unless they are nursing pups or I see that they are not doing as well as I would like.
Do you have your pup on a puppy chow??? Most pup chows have the omega 3 in them.

All my dogs get science diet for puppies. I have noticed that the girls want to eat grass lately. the male only wants to eat rabbit fur, lol
