Ear Problem
I have a beagle with what looks like little sores on the lower inside and outside ear. It is not in the ear canal but on the ear flap. I have tried antibiotic ointments, WD-40, Nu-stock, and hydrocortizone to no avail. What do you recommend?

Re: Ear Problem
try just letting the sores dry out and heal. dont put anything on them. i had a foxhound that had a bad sore on the top of his foot that i could not get healed up. the vet told me to stop puting crap on it and just let it dry and heal.
are they just sores from running? do you know what they may be from?
good luck, dave

Tried that Dave. They just got worse. I am using antibiotics now so we will see what happens. I hate to spend the money for vets but will if it doesn't clear up soon.

I find 2 products cover almost all ear issues. Zymox Otic for everything inner ear except mite. This stuff is hand down the best for anti bacteria and infections. http://www.petkingbrands.com/products/otic.html
For the outer ear I've used Shapley’s Original M-T-G. Works really well and is oil-based so no need to rewash the ear before reapply. http://www.shapleys.com/products_view.aspx?articleid=17 The Zymox could probally work on the outside of the ear but it's more expensive so I save it for inner ear and use the M-T-G on outer. M-T-G also promotes active hair growth on bare spots.

Try Gold Bond Medicted powder, or store brand. that is what our vet used on a pup we had bought that had a bab infected bite on his ear flap after he lanced and cleaned it. he would just clean it eveery other day with peroxide then blot dry and sprinkle generous amount gold bond medicated powder to dry it up woked great. i keep it on hand for things that need dried up it seems to work. new stock works well also.
