Doc,
My 14 week old puppy was just diagnosed with Demodex Mange.
What can you tell me about it?Is it a serious thing that I should worry about for the rest of her life or is it an easy fix?Does this eliminate her from a breeding program in the future?Do I have to worry about my other dogs around her? Thanks in advance to you or anyone else that can tell me if they have experience with this......Thanks,Ray

Mange is caused by mites that most dogs have in small amounts. Most dogs develop an immune system response to it, but most puppies don't have a well-developed immune system, so a number of puppies break-out because of it.
It she gets it as an adult, or has a really bad case of it, then she's probably got a bad immune system, and that's something to worry about it terms of breeding her, because that's usually tied to genetics.

Thanks guys,
I didn't want to get back to you to early till I see how things are going with the pup.She seems to be doing very well and no hare loss. The vet has her on .04 ivermectin per day for a month. He seems to think it will take care of it till her imune system matures ,like you said.I'm going to have her spayed though. That's a shame but then again,I won't have to worry about the heat cycle during hunting season. The vet told me that at this moment,Ohio State University is working on a cure for Demodex Mange.
Well,Take care and happy running.....Ray
