Post by Spice »

My 2 year old male has had stool, blood, and conplete physical. Why! He runs A long hard race on A warm or hot day comes in staggering drinks excessive amounts of water. will stand or lay around untel he cools down then will go hunting again and repeat the same actions. The other dogs that or running with him show very little fategue yet they have ran just as hard. Now this male is ran an average of 3 hours A day 5days A week. My vet thinks he has A gland problem . This is A supper nice young dog I do not want to give up on him . Please give 2nd. openion. thanks Roy

Worms can be a problem.

I have had this problem many times before. They go out do there thing for a while and then come back to your feet. Does it seem like he is out of breath? he certanly is getting ran enough though so I don't know. Just an opinion.

I've heard of thyroid issues causing problems with a dog's ability to regulate heat. Vet can do a quick test. If that's the problem, meds are pretty cheap.

Roy.......Have you had a heartworm test done? If so was it a microscope check or an occult test? Does he ever act tired in cool weather or is it only in hot weather?

Take care,

Randy I had my vet check him for hart worms. He all so checked stool and gave him A conplete physical. the vet thanks it is his glands. he shows most of this tiredness on 60 degree or hotter weather.Vet after doing blood work and all the rest tells me all test came back negitive. That dog seems to be perfectly healthy. He suggests I not run him on hot days and have plenty of cool water and some treats with me when I do run him. I was hoping that some one may have found A cure for this problem in their dog. Looks like I will have to live with it. Roy

some things you can do to help the dog in hot weather give baby aspirin couple hours before running him helps thin blood this does work also warm weather dont give high protein food lots of protein tend to over heat quicker i have dogs with this problem you can help it but not cure it i do not run mine in the heat similiar to heat stroke.

you can get panacur at tsc farm stores in horse worming section fendenzobale or close on spelling beagles i give 1 inch on finger. it will not say panacur on tube look for that main ingredient at bottom.
