What should go in my first aid kit?

Post by SMytyk »

I've always just thrown the bare essentials (antiseptic, gauze, medical tape, stuff to treat cuts and scrapes) in my pocket before i go hunting, but I want to spend this offseason putting together a few first aid kits for my hunting dogs. I'll do a big one for in my rig and a smaller one that I can carry with me in the field. What items should I have in each?

A fishing tacklebox makes a great med supply box for the truck or SUV ...

Rather than put stuff in your pocket, a small backpack or shoulder pack is preferred in the field.

I would also include a leather shoestring or tourniquet, as well as a phone number to the facility local to you that deals in antiserum in case of snakebite.
