gyp in heat?

Post by wvhunter »

I had a gyp come in heat the week Dec 15th. Now it's been well over a month and I still have males wanting to mount her and paying all their attention to her while out hunting. She's still a bit puffy. Again well over a month. A side note this is her first cycle after having pups. Could she still be in heat?

I highly doubt she's still in heat. It's probably just her hormones taking longer than usual to revert to anestrus because she wasn't bred this time. Wouldn't worry about it too much. There is the possibility that some bacteria got in while she was in heat and is causing some problems. Or it could be developing into a false pregnancy. I'd just keep an eye on it. Hope this helps! :D

I would give her a good bath with a mild soap. You might try applying some sort of cover scent to her backside - avoiding the sensitive tissues of course.
