*** NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ONE***
I have a female just turned 5 months June 18th.
She stoped eating and drinking Wed. I didnt think to much about it.
I figured by Thurs Morning she wiuld be hungry & thirsty.
She still wouldnt touch a thing. I took her to the Vet, they did a stool sample
checked it and she's got "Whipworms" Im giveing her panacur 1 time a day , plus
a half 500mg Flagyl 2 times a day so shes gettng 500 mg a whole day , plus 1 tab of
centrine 2 times a day.
She still is not eating or drinking on her own . I have been taking a syringe
and giveing her water every two hours as much as she will take .
I sure dont want to loose this little girl and am open to all good suggestions
Is there any thing else I can try or do . I have put ham , dog food, anthing up to her
and she just turnes her head. When I try to force it a little at a time she'll spit it out.
HELP GUYS !!!!!
Thanks and God Bless

Re: *** NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ONE***
You are right with the fluids - she can go a lot longer without food than water! Regardless of her problem, the water won't hurt. You might try a bit of Gatorade and see if she can stomach that. As long as she back eating a bit within a week or so she should be fine. If you could get her to take a bit of Nutri-Cal that would help nutritionally over the short term. I would think it would take a very bad case of whipworms to make a dog quit eating. I did have a friend Lab pup almost died at about the same age from Whips. AS I recall. the lab became anemic and very weak practically over night but I do not recall whether or not he stopped eating. Did she have stool issues or vomiting at any point? If so, I would have suspected HGE, Parvo, Corona, or some type of poisoning or food issue. I give Kaopectate to control loose stools regardless of the reason and neomycin whenever there are bloody stools. If there were no loose or bloody stools, I would suspect there is a bockage of some sort or bad constipation. Surely, the vet has ruled these causes out. Hopefully, he is right about the whipworms and she will come around soon! Best wishes!
Re: *** NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ONE***
If there is a possibility of this what I would do is give her two tablespoons of vasaline. I learned this from an old timer that had a dog swallow a rock that blocked up the dog worked like a charm. He told me if you get a dog that swallows something that blocks them up to give em 2 tablespoons of vasaline. Surely if it was a poison you would see more symptoms, pale gums from internal bleeding and vomiting and diarrhea.I would suspect there is a bockage of some sort or bad constipation. Surely, the vet has ruled these causes out. Hopefully, he is right about the whipworms and she will come around soon! Best wishes!
Like Chuck says keep poking the fluids to her. You can also give her shots of normal saline under the skin to keep her hydrated.

Re: *** NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ONE***
Thanks Guys,
TC , I dont think she's got a blockage but does have the Whips.
Right now Im keeping her pumped with liquids and when I take her back
to the Vet I will mention the Vasoline to him .
Chuck Terry,
She did vomet 2 times, but no Bloody stool or ( Dihareahia <spelling> )
Like comes withthe Parvo . In fact her stool was normal Tuesday.
I tried some Gator aid with her yesterday evening , so far so good.
Im having a neighbor pick up some Ensure for her today , im going to try that too.
Its supposed to have a lot of Vitimins and other things in it and maybe it will also help
her to get back some things she's missing by not eating right now.
Boys I have never had a dog to get these whip worms that I can ever remember,
roundworms ,hookworms and Tape worms I have but never these whips.
This is a new one for me in over 45 years of raising hounds.
You know it seems like they could make a wormer to take care of all kinds there are in
a 1 type of wormer and maybe there are, but I dont know anything about the brand if they do.
If y'all know of a wormer that does please tell me it sure would make it easer when you have them dogs on a worming program to Nip them all in the Bud !
Apprently she had these in her system incubateing in her when I got her in April.
I got her when she was 3 months old. and she just turned 5 months June 18th.
Them Whipworms are some Nasty Bugers and how quick they can bring a dog down
I mean Quick. I believe if I had waited 1 more day, Georgia wouldnt be here with me at all. You all know how fast Parvo can knock a dog down, well these darn whip worms
work just as fast on a pup as the Parvo or Corona ...
I know I will never just use a wormer for general worming, its going to be a good un
that will kill all types or two types of wormers.
And if y'all know of a wormer to get them all Please post it here, we all could benifit
from it and save some of our prised posesions , Our Hounds !!!
Thanks again Fellas...

Re: *** NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ONE***
I would not give it to Georgia this time as she is in such a weakened state - especially since you have a vet on the case already. However, many of us preventatively use broad spectrum wormers that are generic versions of (or something very similar to) Drontal Plus. It gets rounds, whips, hook, tapes, and has an ovicide to get eggs as well. If you use the Ivomec monthly already, you can give it 2 to 4 times a year to be sure the tapes and whips do not slip in on you! The one I currently use is called Paratak Plus and I get it mail order from various suppliers by doing a search on the internet to find the best price. You want the 10 Mg dose for beagles. I hope Georgia makes a full recovery soon!
Re: *** NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ONE***
I've had pups feel alot better the day after giving 1cc per 10/lb of Valbazen, gave it for 10 days.
Also, had false (neg.) - results on parvo test also.
Whips are bad and show blood in stool.
Best of luck w/ your puppy...

Re: *** NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ONE***
I gave her last dose of Panacur the Vet gave me to give her yesterday.
Also I pumped her full of "Ensure Liquid" This morning she feels better
she waging her tail and is responding to me calling her name.
I fixed her a Little food with Ensure over it and she ate a little
Not Much
But this is a huge improvment compaired to the last few days. She also drank
on her own a little water...
I do think she's going to do a turn around now, its been ruff for her the last few days
Praise God she's showing shes feelin better. I take her back to the Vet Wed.
I had a buddy contact me yesterday about useing Ivomec and Valbazen once she back
to her self again, I know alot of different fellas use this for their dogs.
But chuck, I wont change or put her on anything new untill she's back up to top shelf
again and puts back on the weight she has lost.
SR Patch,
I think I caught her just in time , the Vet asked me the same thing ,about blood
in her stool. Also said she would have started that, when they took the stool sample
a little blood came out with it. So it was just a matter of time .
Thanks for all of you Guys for the concerns on Georgia !!!
As things go I will keep you updated ...

If she still isn't eating enough try giving her pieces of buttered bread with a little jelly on it.
