Tore up feet!

Post by rimfirematt »

Well I thought Id play mountain man on sunday and try to shoot rabbits with my muzzloader. Well the poor beagle ran for 6 hours! normally we only run for a couple of hours once a week. Also there was some pretty sharp snow in places this weekend wich probably wasnt too good either.

Anyway he is pretty gimped up and has wore off some pads. They look pretty painfull and he isnt getting around to good.
Is there anything I can do for his feet? If I could at least get him walking some his muscles might feel better.

What about prevention? Sled dogs up here wear booties I wonder if he would? I suppose once he got on a trail hed forget all about them. Or got out of the car for that matter!

I see you're from Alaska, so you could try to get some of the Pink Ointment they use for sled dogs feet. I know they sell it in a Vet's office in Anchorage (and probably more places there). Another thing to try is EMT Gel, as it's supposed to work miracles. For sure, you'll have to lay him up for a few weeks to give the pads a chance to heal. Good Luck, Terry McBride

soak the dogs feet in pickle juice for a few minutes every day for a week this will heal and toughen up its feet so you wont have any problems any more
