abcest on dogs flank

Post by bobby brewster »

i took a dog to the vet after a abcest come up on its side.he open it up and cleaned it out and it is healing fine after only a few days.the vet said it was a foreign body that caused it.i asked him how it got in her because i shaved the area around it and drained some of the abcest and found no markes on her near the spot he said it could have been air board.my question is how.two other littermates to this female have got abcest by bite marks from fighting over there feed. has any one send this or heard of a air board foreign body causeing a abcest on a dogs side or flank.thank you for any help or info.

Abscess

Post by Tricolor »

We have been trying (unsuccessfully) for almost two months to rid our dog of an abscess on her side.
The vet feels it was caused by a foreign object- she has been on two rounds of antibiotics (now on her third.)
The vet lanced it last week, and advised us to rinse it out daily with a syringe- once with Hydrogen Peroxide and once with Betadine.
Another female of ours had an abscess above her eye, and once it popped, everything healed nicely. However, with this female, popping it did not totally solve the problem.
Happiness is owning a beagle...or seven.
