open sores & scabbing

Post by CHRIS WHITT »

I have a 3 yr old dog that had a few small spots appear on his ears that I thought was coming from flies,so I bought the spray and applied it to the ears and body. When I came back in town this morning the dog is covered with open sores and several areas are already scabbed over.(I mean 100's of sores)I don't know how to treat it because I don't know what it is.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

sores

First off you need to monitor the dog to see how he/she is getting the sores. What I mean is if it is a incident where they are forming or if it is a seconadry sore caused by scratching. It could be a number of things allergies, mites, etc. If something like food, bedding, housing, or enviromental surroundings have changed it could be allergies. Either way he is going to need some anti-biotics.

Chris,
Do you have a photo of the sores? This would be a good thing to post I think there is a lot of beagles getting the crud and no one knows what is going on with their dogs till someone else sees it too and has delt with it. Hard to tell you what is going on when we don't know what it looks like.

Ours broke out with crud and we tried everything under the sun, finally I baught some fish amox from Revival ($13.00) for 100 capsuls 250 mg. started my dog on it and with in a week they were gone, gave him 250 mg am and pm.

None of the other stuff I had tried from saulve to fungus remedies worked. Last resort went to the antibiotics.

It could be rocky mountain tick fever too, that I understand breaks out in little sores all over as well so might be to your advantage to have him tested.

I use the Doc's ear remedy on the ears and it seems to clear up in two days or so. Also a shot of Ivomec seems to help and takes a week to clear if they seem really bad.
I believe it's a mite or just from hard running most times.

I had a blackmouth cur hog dog with similar symptoms. I tried every ointment under the sun with no improvement. She got cut by a hog and I gave her penicillin for three or four days and the crud went away. Sores healed up and the scabs fell off. If I had a dog come down with it again I would try the penicillin first. Cant hurt.

I have been pouring the penicillin to him as well as some allergy pills the vet gave me,they said that it sounded like some sort of allergic reaction.they even mentioned poision ivy or oak but I had never heard of a dog getting that.(and I will post pics as soon as my sister brings my camera back)

I will be picking up ivomex tonight,,,Hope it works
