albon mix

Post by mo. beagler »

My order fron jeffers should be here tomorrow. My pups are 5 weeks old and by themselves most of the day. I put the mother in twice a day and all night. I put soft food ( puppy food soaked in warm water) in twice a day. Is this a good time to start the albon? and for how long should I give it. All stools look good. Is this the right way to go about the weening process? Thanks...

If the stools "look good", why are you giving Albon? Do you suspect Cocidiosis or are you giving it for prevention?

I often give Albon as a preventative just because I have already had many cases of it here. I believe like with worms my bitches are carriers and most of my puppies will experience a bout of it around weaning time. It might be beneficial to take a stool sample or 2 into the vet for a fecal float just to see.. if you see any blood or mucus you will definately want to use it. I just purchased a bottle of the already made stuff today..ugh! expensive but, easy to give because they LOVE it!

Coccidia treatment, mix the packet Albon powder Di metox with 25 oz of water. Then mix 4 oz of the albon/water mixture with 6 oz Dyne. That will be a 5% solution. On the first day, you give 5cc per 10 pounds, and after for 5-7 days, give 2.5cc per 10 pounds? If using the 12.5% Albon liquid, you mix 4oz Albon with 6oz Dyne. The mixture is given at: 1 tsp (5cc) per 10 lbs the first day and 1/2tsp (2.5cc) per 10 lbs for days 2-7.>
Corid amporium powder. Use 1 tablespoon per 3 gallons of drinking water of the 20% Corid powder, for 5 days, Corid is used as a treatment for coccidia. Coccidia causes diarrhea that has mucus and blood in it

I order it from Valley vet supply. its about 54.00 for a pint and shipping is free. It lasts me easy 6 months or more. I've tried buying all the stuff and mixing it up myself and the dogs hate it because even with Dyne its super bitter and its much easier to dose them when they are begging for it. Also, I felt like it went bad before I could use it up.
