taking fits

Post by CHRIS WHITT »

recently I was running dogs with my uncle when one of his dogs started going crazy. He acted like he was being shocked but was'nt wearing a collar. He was yelping and running around crazy and acted scared to get close to anyone, this went on for only about 5 min or so and he just quit and returned to the chase. He said that the dog had done it a couple of times before.has anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks ,Chris

The dog was having a seizure. Could be epilepsy or low blood sugar. Get the dog to the vet and have it checked out. I wouldn't breed it untill I knew for sure.

There was a post with the same problem back in the fall. Dog just went crazy while running rabbit. I don't remember its title but do a search, maybe you can find some more information.

Good luck with the dog

I think it was a seizure. There's been a few posts about that in the past and someone said some dog treats (sugar) helped out. May want to take the dog to the vet to have them run some tests. How old is the dog, did it ever happen before?

The dog is about 2 and It has happened 2 or 3 times before , can't afford the vet bill . He has called several vets and they say that u cant tell without having test run.But he has tried sugar, before, during and after the hunt,Just never know when its coming.

I don't know of any blood test for epilepsy. If its low blood sugar they could check that IF the dog is having a problem when its at the vet. Most likely they'd run up a big bill and still not be able to give you a real answer so, if the dog runs ok and seems to do fine most of the time then he is probably at least enjoying himself. I would have him neutered.

I had a friends dog do the same 2 or 3 times last week and he took him to the vet and it wasn't seizures it was cramps. The dog is ran hard and in shape. The vet wondered if maybe he didn't have a vitamin defficiency so he put him on a multivitamin and hasn't had on since. Hope this may help.
