what supplements to use?
has anyone had any luck supplimenting their dogs food for peak performance. i have heard people mention red cell builder, vitamin tabs, going to a higher performance dog food ect. other than conditioning, what has anyone had the best luck supplementing. i am looking to give my hounds an edge in trialing where late round endurance is a must. also it would be nice to keep the snap in them for those all day hard gun hunts. any advice or experiances appreciated.

i was looking around on the web and found this site. i am going to compare these supplements vs. cost of the pricier dog foods. problem is i have tried most foods out there.these are just a few. no raw meat yet though. euk 30/20/pro plan 30/20 and buckeye 30/20 yet i can still seem to see the hounds wearing down a little. i'm curious if i can keep the stamina from tailgate drop to tailgate close. btw, if anyone has had any neg results from this stuff or anything else please post..!

I'm using Buckeye 30/20 now and it seem to be working good for me. I haven't really had the chance to run them all day though. The old guys i hunt with are usally worn out around 2 o' clock or so.
I run my dogs alot and thats the only buckeye formula i can feed them this time of year because i run them about 3-4 hours everyday after school. It seems to keep the weight on them.
I have Canine Red Cell i've only used it a handful of times so far. I think it gave them a little more energy on the days i gave it to them.
I've tried the other supplements and never found anything that really works like the bottle says its supposed too. I just started feeding them Raw meat every once in a while. It seems to give them a little boost of energy.

Keep up with the raw meat! Especially very fatty cuts. Its a common misconception that carbs will give a dog stamina and endurance - thats only true to an extent. FAT is what actually gives dogs quality energy & stamina. Then the carbs "kick in" and provide that extra boost.Huntin54 wrote: I've tried the other supplements and never found anything that really works like the bottle says its supposed too. Crewchf ... I know what you mean about the Eukanuba puppy food! We're feeding their small breed puppy formula to a lactating bitch, an older pup and a litter of seven pups. Let me tell you, the other dogs go WILD when I open the bin and they smell this food

hounds can get e-coli just as humans do. i did a little research in my vet manual yesterday and found that it IS a possibility for them to contract a few differant types of problems from uncooked meats especially pork. i dont want to contradict anyone on this. just saying i read the info. i will try the meat cooked and see what happens. no vegies though, onoins and spinach are def out.
The only raw meat I wouldn't feed anymore is pork. Some of the hounds handle it well, but others couldn't digest it, and I'd see chunks of bone in the stool ... never saw that with any other type of bone, and I've given hard ones such as lamb & beef necks. A few years back, I also had a pup who ate quite a bit of raw ground pork and had the WORST roundworm infestation that took several wormings to get rid of. Don't know if the two were connected, but won't chance it by feeding pork anymorefull circle kennel wrote:thanks for the advice guys. i'm going to give that a try. anyone have any worm issues by feeding raw meats?

I've started using "Pet Tabs". they are a vitamin tablet purchased at any pet store. I've noticed a difference in mine. I usually give it 2-3 times a week. Especially the day before and the day of a hard run.
They can be expensive, but i've noticed a difference. I think I paid 25.00 for 180 tablets.
Only drawback i've seen... a lil extra from the rear end...
