It may be a fungal infection, some dogs get it from setting on the damp ground. If it seems to be itchy you can give her benedryl 25mg.It may make her sleepy but it will help with the itching. You can also try betadine scrub. Or a anti funal shampoo. You can also buy antifungal cream over the counter. If it is fungal a good jock itch cream may help.If this doesn,t help you may be looking at a bacterial skin infection(confirmed by a skin scrape) which will have to be treated with anti-biotics.

Timl,

Could be allergies. My wife's aunt has a small house dog that had to be put on steroid shots because of multiple allergies. This dog lost almost all of its hair before they found out what was causing it. But until you find out for sure, like moondog said, the Benedryl should help.

Chris
Boys, isn't that my dog leading the pack?

Use to when hounds would loose hair or have a poor coat, it was due to poor food quality(corn).
All this wet weather is working on some hounds with weak immune systems.
I have often wondered why some hounds have all these troubles and some have none. I've come to look at these things the same as when a hound can run a rabbit and another cannot...the first, is just a better hound and these are the kind I want more of...
This is not to be pointed at your hound as a fresh dry bed and some anti-fungal may clear it up, but I read more and more on here of hounds fighting reoccurring problems that point to a hound of poor constitution.
Some people are spending more money on their hounds welfare, than is spent on Aunt Sib's doctoring pills.
A quote from Randall oft comes to mind on these things, "the more we take on to do for our hounds, is a job never completed"... ;)
Hope you hound gets back to full coat soon...Patch
