Rob, personally I would pass on giving it to her. Ivermectin is an insecticide in the practical sense. It's not fit for dogs under 6 months of age, so I wouldn't take the chance of transfer to puppies in the milk. A vet might tell you differently, depending on the vet, but I wouldn't do it anyway. I don't think it will hurt her to go without a few weeks until pups are weaned.

Heartworm preventatives are not actually preventing the introduction of heartworm filaria, they go in and "clean up", or kill the filaria that was introduced into the bloodstream the 30 days prior to giving it. You have a little wiggle room there as it takes several months for filaria to become a worm. Pups can be bitten all summer by mosquitoes, started on their Ivermectin at age 6 months, so....

If you use Interceptor, It can be given to pregnant and nursing moms, and puppies 6 weeks old. It's a safer compound with little chance of overdose.

Aaron, I get Interceptor from the vet. I buy in such a quantity, that I get a free dose with each 6 I purchase, but it's still expensive. On the bright side, unless my hounds get tapes, I don't have to buy any other wormers. Interceptor kills everything except tapes.

You can get Interceptor on line from a company out of Australia, I believe - PetMeds, or something like that. They are suppose to be cheaper, but I've been too lazy to check it out.

I agree...pass on the Ivomec. Interceptor is the best thing since sliced bread IMHO.
