Solo Jec 7 shot

Post by coolbrze »

I just picked up a couple Solo Jec 7 shots. I'm guessing it's a 7 in 1 shot? It says Canine Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus Vaccine (modified live virus), and Leptospira Bacterin. Is this shot good for puppies? What does this shot offer that others don't and what doesn't it offer? Thanks!

Really? It even says on the websites and package that it's OK to give to pups. I've been doing it for years, just curious if there's something better out there or if I'm using a quality product.

pups under 12 weeks should not have lepto/ i ussaly give them the shot with lepto at 16 weeks which would be there there 4 shot.
i give the 6 way at 6,8 12 then the 7 way at 16.
Sorry can not recall the problem it can cause in pups under 12 weeks. but was told by me vet and several others that i trust to avoid it in young pups.
Maybee some one else her can tell you more. :?:

The vaccine that contains two live form of Letpospirosis (different strains). The thing with Lepto is, it's a bacterium, not a virus, like the other things we vaccinate for and can't be made into a modified-live or killed vaccine. There are many, many strains of the leptospira bacteria. Giving this can cause problems in young pups, old dogs, or ill dogs because you are actually giving them a small amount of the actual bacteria and illness can insue. The other components in this 7-way shot uses modified live or killed virus. They can NOT give the dog the virus, thus are safer to give pups.
The lepto vaccine can and does also cause problems in grown, otherwise healthy dogs and is responsible for most of the vaccine reactions that dogs have.
Leptospirosis is also contageous to other animals AND humans!

Here is some info on Leptospirosis.
