Worming schedule

Hi everyone,
Two weeks ago we wormed all of our dogs for 3 days on Safeguard and are now getting ready to do the Ivomec for heartworm prevention. I noticed a few of the dogs appear to have earmites. (brown waxy stinky residue) I want to try the Ivomec in the ears for the mites instead of the Blue Powder Ear Treatment we usually use. The Blue Powder treatment takes longer and is messy too.
My question is how long should I wait between the Ivomec for the Heartworm prevention and the Ivomec for the ears? Or will it be necessary to do both?
My dogs range in weight from 15 to 25 lbs. and I want to be careful not to overdose.
I am posting the recipe for the Blue Powder Ear treatment if anyone is interested. The Blue Powder Ear treatment is good for alot of ear problems. The alcohol dries the ear, the boric acid kills mites, the Genetian Violet is an antifungal antiviral, and the vinegar keeps the correct Ph balance in the ears.

Blue Power Ear Treatment
INGREDIENTS:
16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%
8 oz. white vinegar

Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well. You will also need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder. To use, purchase the "Clairol" type plastic bottle ( or even a clean mustard bottle) to dispense solution to affected ears.
TREATMENT: Evaluate condition of ears before treating and if very inflamed and sore do not attempt to pull hair or clean out ear at all. Wait until inflammation has subsided which will be about 2 days.
Shake the bottle each time before using. Flood the ear with solution (gently squirt bottle), massage gently to the count of 60, wipe with a tissue. Flood again on first treatment, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massage. The dog will shake out the excess which can be wiped with a tissue, the Gentian Violet does stain fabrics.

You can do the Ivermectin in the ears and for Heartworms, at the same time.

An old Beagler told me how to mix up a solution for ear mites. I told my vet about the mixture, and he said it was fine to use. It has worked better than the stuff from the vets, for me. It also works for canker ear.

Mix all of these in a resealable bottle, and store out of sunlight. It will last a long time.

8 oz. Rubbing Alcohol
8 oz. Peroxide
10 cc Ivermectin

Using a serenge,(without the needle) put 3 cc of the mixture in each ear. Don't squirt it in the ear hard, you can damage the ear. The vet said to put the mixture in slow, and while still holding the dog's head to the side, massage the base of the ear, as to work it in.
Repeat 3 days later, and your problem should be cured.

I usually pour mineral oil in my dog ears. seems to work good.
