Autofeeder?
I have an automatic feeder but have never used it. I am concerned about my dog overeating and getting fat. I think it would be nice to use if I go out of town for a few days though. One more question, what do most people do when they are gone for a few days, take their dogs to a boarding kennel or have someone feed and water them at home? I don't know how much boarding costs per day and I would be worried about my dog catching something from other dogs (kennel cough, etc.) Thank You very much for your imput!

I had 3 in my old kennels,I guess they where ok ,but I give fresh water and feed , and wash out my pens daily. I have a water hose at my above ground kennels and keep my dog food in a trash can right there beside them,so it is easy for my hunting buddies or a family member to care for my dogs.I wouldnt take my dogs to a kennel unless it was a have to case, you would need to give kennel cought meds. 4 days before you take them in for boarding.

If your dog was not raised to "free feed", then you probably would get some overweight dogs. Beagles are especially prone to over eating and obesity. If you only use it for a few days at a time and then remove it, I wouldn't see it would cause to much of a problem though.
As far as boarding kennels, I don't think you should have to worry about your dogs "catching anything", as most kennels require ALL vaccines prior to boarding. Shots should be administered no less than 1 - 2 weeks before boarding. Our cost for boarding is $12 per night for the first dog, and then each additional dog recieves a discount based on the number of dogs you are boarding. Of course all kennels are different.
