Re: LP Rule Change Carrying Hand-held Unit
A lot of judges in our clubs are opposed because they think it gives an advantage to those who have one over people who don't. I just don't see it. Someone always has an advantage: better running spots, more hours to train or the money to pay someone to train/condition, or the ability to attend more...

LP Rule Change Carrying Hand-held Unit
LP is taking a vote on changing the rule so LP contestants can carry their hand-held with them. It does not change the collar--if it shocks or tones you can't use it--only the hand-held. What is everyone's take? I'm for it. If a person wants to cheat, he'll find a way but this would make the rules s...

Planted Enough
I've spent the last few days picking the corn that the deer, turkeys, and rabbits didn't get in my food plots. I planted two patches at around 1/3 acre each. I got my sprockets reversed so the plants ended up a little close so I had a lot of small ears. I figure, even after all winter, I'll end up w...

Re: Dealing with the heat
Rabbit "season" is from 1/2 hour before dawn until 1/2 hour after sunset here in Michigan. Night running is illegal.

Re: started dog
Do you do well every day? It's still a pup. Don't expect a two-year-old dog. Enjoy watching him learn and you reveling in his training. Even older, finished dogs have off days.

I agree. When I come out of the pen so do my dogs.

Re: Soloing Revisited
Very well said and your position defended. I agree with everything you said. When I and others can see a difference, I know I am on the right track for THAT dog. My R CH female needed more pack work as she was very independent and slow to hark in to the pack. Now she's the first to go. Each dog has ...

Re: Soloing Revisited
He didn't get the checks until after he had taken the track 100 yards. Why are some so quick to cast judgement? This dog has minused out 11 times in the past year. I try to share some small accomplishment and my dog gets whacked by someone who has never seen him run. Sure makes one feel like posting...

Hound of the Year Runoffs
How do you guys handle the HOY awards at your club? Do you have a run off with say the top 10 in each class? Or do you just go with the high score? The key to HOY is to put your dog into as many hunts as you can. It doesn't seem fair if one dog has 909 points and attended 15 hunts he should beat a d...

Re: Soloing Revisited
I've seen plenty with so much independence from running solo that fail to hark. I agree. These dogs are three years old and have always run in a pack--usually we each bring two dogs. Getting him to hark is not the problem. Getting him to take control of the track/check is. At a trial recently he to...

Re: Soloing Revisited
I have been soloing my quick-to-open dog for about two weeks, packing him with others once or twice a week. Today the judge told me he has never seen him look so good. He only got one minus for NP while others got two. Won his cast. Sure was proud of him. Convinced me; some dogs need more alone time...

Re: How much do you think it cost a year to raise a dog.
I figure it keeps me young and healthier than I might be otherwise. It's relaxing, usually, and a chance to observe Mother Nature in all her splendor is icing on the cake. It adds to my life bank account.
