Re: breeding to a gun shy gyp
A lot of gun shyness is genetic and it is a major fault in many breeds . It can be a man made problem but I think it has more to do with genetics . Some dogs you can get them to overcome this problem but it is not easy . In my opinion you should never breed a dog that has a major fault their are to ...

Re: Shuuting Off Scent
Very interesting thread here I have to agree with the vet and sr patch . The biggest part of this I have a problem with is that some people think that the hare or rabbit controls this shutting off scent. I think it happens but it is a invloantaty action of being scared and it throughout off the houn...

Re: Just as good or not?
I just hunt hare and we wont even load our guns until the dogs have put several miles on the hare.the more the dogs run and the more tracked up an area gets the more the dogs have to work to keep the hare going and learn how to do it . if we shot all the hare on the first circle they would never lea...

Re: A good hard hunt line??
to me a dog has to have brains to be a good jump dog .the best one I had was a dog that looked for the blow downed tree or low to the groud evergreen and check them out because he knew he might find a hare there wile the other dogs would blow right by and never check it out.mary times I would walk w...

Re: snowshoe hares in the hole?
I have only had it happen once that I know of the hare was hit with a couple pellets but ran a couple more circles and the dogs were putting the pressure on and he went into a pile of lumber scraps most of the dogs milled around looking for the track but one of my males wanted him and tried to follo...

Re: running rabbits with a beagle
I run my beagles to hear the run and to shoot a couple hare . I don't care if they are right on the line or drifting a track as long as they stay on the hare and keep on pushing him to the gun. But I want a dog that can also slow it down and keep a track between its legs if that is what is needed to...

I prefer the astro with the tri tronics on a separate collar . I can run without a shock collar but I will not run with out a tracking collar.

Re: rabbit Season
Running has been real good nice long runs . Deer season is over today so it should safe to run whenever we get a chance.the hare population is holding its own . We don't shoot many so we can get runs every time out.my two young dogs are turning in on pretty good so it should be a good year .
