Re: people you can trust

Depends........who do you know well enough that would sell you an "excellent dog" knowing what It is you like and expect in an excellent dog? One persons definition of an "excellent" dog and yours might be 2 different things. I don't need more than one hand to count the number of people who I would ...

Re: MY FIRST HARE HUNT

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Those memories will stay with you for years! I've only run cottontail with my hounds a couple days. I made a trip down to TN to my buddy Shady Grove's place to pick up a pup and stayed a week in 2012. The dogs I had at the time did OK I thought. If I lived where I only had...

Re: Goodbye is never easy.............

Sorry about your hound. It never never never gets easier. I had to put down my best all time hound this spring , peaches. She was a gun dog deluxe, honest as they come, clean running dog and a total pushover at home with the kids. Never once barked in the kennel ( just like her mom, grandmom ) . Los...

Re: Goodbye is never easy.............

Thanks guys. We all know the years are short for our hounds. Especially the better ones.

Goodbye is never easy.............

Had to bid farewell to an old and faithful 4 legged friend this morning. Hare Hammer'n Black Reba was laid to rest at ten years of age. She was not perfect but provided a lot of years of enjoyment. I'll remember her best as a snow dog. Never had a day where she could not circle a hare to the gun on ...

Re: Cruz Control X Strange Daze Bella

My condolences on your loss of a nice young hound. The Lymes disease and other tick bourne diseases can be devastating to our 4 legged canine partners. The cost for prevention can be ridiculous as well but as you stated it needs to be taken seriously. Hope you're able to find another of his caliber....

Re: Brammlet Female

Glad your female is making you happy. These tick borne diseases are becoming a real issue and can be expensive , both in prevention and treatment when its required. Here in Northern New England ticks were almost non existent for years. Rarely would you see one on a dog. Now I go over my dogs after e...

Re: Brammlet Female

If she wasn't checked for Ehrlicosis/Ehrlichia, which is also a tick born disease, might want to get her checked for that. Know a couple guys here in the NE that have bought a couple coon hounds out of the south that have had that. Screws them up pretty good. Supposedly its treatable but from what I...

Re: Gone With the Wind

Ditto Bowguy. God often hides pearls in the midst of our trials..........we just need to dig deeper at times to find them.

Re: Gone With the Wind

Not sure any of us are winning or loosing Bowguy but I do hope you win that fight with the brain tumor and that your eye is returned to full function. Funny how things we often think are issues or problems pale in comparison to what really matters in life. You'll be in my prayers for restoration of ...

Re: Gone With the Wind

OK, here comes my 2 cents. I have come to appreciate both camps in this discussion. 1st off, kudos to anyone who knows what they want in a hound and has the discipline to stick to their scruples in keeping what pleases them. Don't care what format your running if you trial regularly with the desire ...

I learned a long time ago there's only one person my hounds need to please. As long as they do that life's good for them!! ;)

Re: Gone With the Wind

A good medium to upper medium speed dog that can run the line with minimal losses while staying focused will wear out a lot of "fast" dogs. Often from the middle of the pack. That being said if you've ever owned one that can run the line with speed and accuracy with minimal losses you will never for...

Re: Puppy vaccines

I've had (2) different occasions where pups have had a reaction to the Lepto shot. It happens fast, within 5 minutes or less and if it does you better get them to the vet pronto. Vet was able to save both but it was expensive both times. Now I take them to a vet for their first and 2nd Lepto shot so...

Re: Summer feed
I personally don't think hare beagles live as long as cottontail beagles. It's not genetic it is environmental. I'll leave it at that.
Guess from my experience I'd have to disagree with that statement. My experience says the majority of longevity depends on the environment the owne...
