Re: best time to raise a litter
Depends what you wanna do w them. If you were gonna trial better late summer/early fall so you get long derbies. Plus in all honesty a dog born in spring is way too young imo to be of any real use come fall. You be looking at training em instead of hunting em the first season or else you might blow ...

Re: best run to catch style. (STUD)
You know I usually don’t agree w the “run to catch” mindset as most guys doo think its all about speed. The fellows here gave great advice about the pressure. A dog should never outrun his nose. The desire in every dog should be to catch no matter the speed. That being said you oughta be more worrie...

Re: Opinions on running dogs
I was a master of hounds for two progressive pack clubs, I’ve judged for them and I judge AKC. I always say you can learn more about dogwork and dogs judging than you ever could just watching your own. Now the ARHA makes you apprentice first before you judge solo. That’s good. You can learn from som...

Opinions on running dogs
This is a response to some of what I read in the most dominating performance thread. Some of it was judge bashing. Now let me say, standing in a gallery and listening or seeing bits doesn’t cover it all. The judges might be right where we aren’t, they could see or not see something. As long as they’...

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?
Sounds to me like there a lot of oversized dogs where you guys run and you think that’s ok?? A breed standard is a breed standard. Requirements are requirements. To run in a trial you need to meet the requirements. 1- The dog must be a beagle 2-the dog must be registered 3- the dog can’t be fixed 4-...

Re: Epilepsy in beagles
For what it is worth I had a beagle that was having random seizures. Turns out it was his beef based dog food. switched to grain free chicken and vegetables and he never had another seizure. Interesting, I had a dog was seizing once. An old bird dog. For some reason I switched his food to pro plan ...

Re: Training a 12 week old pup
when you start a puppy that early it will bring out the worst in the owner and sometimes the puppy. you start getting impatient, no handle, not doing what you think he needs to do, and so on. to much pressure from the owner on a puppy can sometimes be a bad thing. to many times you hear people talk...

Re: ISO stud dog Eastern PA
Ok I was correct. Check out his “rookies” section pedigrees. There’s Branko in there. All the dogs he runs/keeps are real nice. Heck I put a win on one he got rid of out of the Butterbean dog

Re: ISO stud dog Eastern PA
Gary’s site is giving me probs today so I can’t research all pedigrees. I’m sure a dog or two of his had some Branko blood in back. Maybe that was wrong but call n ask him

Re: Need a class for oversize dogs?
Swampman is dead on!! The breeds have standards, we need to shoot for everything when breeding. If you wanna run oversize, God bless you. If you want to trial them you’re out of luck AKC. Not following EVERY rule is cheating as already said and I’ll add there are no likes in the rule book. We don’t ...

Re: ISO stud dog Eastern PA
You say nothing bout the bloodlines you’re looking for. If the pups are totally outcrossed you’re most likely gonna have one mixed up litter. Being you’re from Eastern Pa I’d be looking at cottontail dogs. Branko though is hare bred and loose mainly. It’s what you have so to start there. Best dogs I...

Re: What's the ultimate rabbit gun
Guys I have no idea who I’m talking to as I’m new here. Not new to guns. The post is more to help new guys decide as the original post seems to be answered w opinions so here’s mine. For starters guys tend to way overgun themselves. Way overchoke themselves. Shot size, and I’ll refer to cottontails ...
