Re: Just say no to kibble!

I cook chicken and rice and give it as 1/3-1/2 of their food daily. Buy in bulk then the chicken & rice is actually cheaper than dog food and I know my dogs are getting protein, etc. The carbs help with energy too.

Re: keeps closing eyes

Did you check to see if anything was in his eyes? My dog' is allergic to ragweed--eyes tear/eyelids swell/inflame when it's real high. Go figure a beagle allergic to ragweed. If the dog is acting blind, IMO it's worth it to take it to the vet ASAP.

Re: gain weight

I read an article on weight and wintertime nutrition. It recommended 2 feedings a day and increasing protein in the winter. I feed the same dog food you do but I've added homecooked chicken and rice to supplement the evening feeding on a female we're putting weight on. Also added 1 tbl. spoon of cod...

Re: Bloody tail from whippin brush

I put an antiseptic cream on my female's tail when she bloodies it up then wrap it with First Aid tape before she goes out to hunt until it heals up. She pays no attention at all to her taped tail when she hunts. The First Aid tape doesn't pull off the hair as bad as some "heavier" tape and helps pr...

Re: Breeding ????

padeerhunter: Her vulva will likely swell and then she'll spot. Some swell a lot and it's real obvious, but we have some that didn't swell a whole bunch but if you watch close you should notice a change. Also the spotting can be heavier in some dogs. Since females can be different in their presentat...

Re: Foot Question

Is she kenneled on wire? If so, it's possible that she's rubbed a place if the wire came up between her toes. I'm pretty sure that happened to a couple of mine and I took them off the wire for a few days and it helped heal the blisters. Good luck!!

Newborns & Heating Pad

Have 5 new healthy additions to our Beagle family :D :D They were born in the living room in the dam's favorite corner. How long do should they have the heating pad in their whelping box?

Re: when is dna required

It took 9 weeks to get the report back on the DNA we had done on our stud this summer. Might not want to wait very long if you have several breedings planned and want to get the litters registered soon after their birth. Also, if you use a credit card and order the kit online I believe it is still $...

Re: Training "Down" in Field

Thanks for the replies. Since it has been a good while since I made this post things have changed a lot. She just comes to me when I call her and sits down in front of me to get leashed up so she figured out exactly what I wanted from her without the e-collar. She did that the first time I told her ...

Re: 15" male Trying to breed 13" female

Does she lift her head up when he mounts? If so, it pulls her backside in from him. How many days has she been in? Sometimes it has to be the right day for the mark to be hit. Keep trying. If all else fails, you may need to help guide him in. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: Dog keeps licking his hind legs

TC did you mean a pinched sciatica nerve? That could definately cause tingling in hip/legs.
jk, you can check for that by gently examining his vertebrae one at a time especially near the end of his spine/hip area, if there is a problem he should react to having that area touched.

Muscle, Tendon or Ligament???

Ran my dog yesterday and she ran solid for about 45 min before the rabbit went to hole. Problem later in the evening with her front leg. She started limping and wouldn't put her foot down. I checked her pad, no problem. Felt her leg, no heat, no swelling but she jerked back every time I touched the ...
