Patch I'm happy to hear you got some good running on hare. I'm having the worst running I've ever had on cottontail here in Oakland county MI. I believe it is due to the predator population. What I know for sure is that the rabbit numbers are way down and most races only go two to three hundred yard...

My friend had a hound out of Tyke for at least six months or so. I can't remember what the bottom side was. The Dog's name was Doc and he was a pretty fair hound. He had above average nose, he was fast enough to run with dogs with Midwest wins, while still running the line. I should mention that he ...

I called Branko years ago, I was interested in breeding to Heli-Prop. It didn't happen, but in our conversation Branko asked what kind of breeding I had in my pen. Well i told him that I had Patch and Snchapp's bred hounds. He told me that he liked Snchapp's breeding, but there hasn't been a Patch h...

Good bye and Thanks to all!!!!!!!!!!
Today will be my last day online for awhile. I'm a cement contractor and business wasn't great last year and I have to tighten the belt until the green starts rolling again. I wanted to tell all the contributers to this forum how much I enjoyed it. Thankyou Beverly for doing what it takes to make th...

I like April and May the best where I'm at in Michigan. Gun season ends March 31, but it isn't till around April 15th when things start greening up. Once things start getting green it isn't unual to get a race go two hours. The only problem is April 15th is the start of the quiet season, which is wh...

Trapping Red Squirrels
I have a couple of red squirrels making a mess in my shed, I've tried using a rat trap baited with peanut butter with no success. I would appreciate any ideas on a better bait. I am hoping the rat trap works, but if anyone has experience in this area I'd appreciate it. Thanks....Bob

Hello Brian: I do believe that there are lines that are less trashy than other lines, and I will take your word that your line doesn't produce much trashrunning. That being said I believe for the most part dogs can be trash broke. I want a dog that hunts hard, runs fast and tight, and has the nose t...

Newby, if you are really new to this you may have missed an important part of the answer to your question. While a hare hound can run a cottontail quite well ( my preference actually) if you buy hare hounds they will be MUCH faster than a medium speed cottontail dog. I hunt mile square chuncks of st...

The only thing I would add to what has been said is that my best bitch is 13" or maybe a 1/4" less. Now at just under six years of age she doesn't run with my pack as much due to two shoulder injuries. I guess she turned with the rabbit a few too many times in front of a hard charging big dog that d...

I wouldn't use valbazen at all. Safeguard is fenbendazole ( I think that's right) and is a different medicine than valbazen. I remember a few years back there was a prominent U.P. beagler that posted killing a field champion with valbazen. I don't remember all the details, but I do remember a few ot...

I have seen places where dogs just couldn't carry the line. One place was at the Truck and Coach plant in Pontiac, at one time years ago every day was a large pack trail with sometimes 20-30 hounds running ( the UBGF guys would leave in digust once the faster dogs started running). There was a spot ...

Hello Chuck, thanks for the work in finding that mount. It is exactly the mount I have. The problem was that the small screws ripped out of the solder joint. I used some pretty hi-grade locktight on the threads, but one could have possibly loosened resulting in the failure of the mount. I just feel ...

double barrel front sling mount
I have a nice 20 gauge side by side, double; that I would like to be able to keep a sling on. I drilled and tapped the solder joint, I even bought the proper tap drill. It was a shop quality installation, the problem is that two tiny screws can't take the abuse my gun receives where I gun. My gracef...
