Re: What age do you retire yours...
I have a 13 yr. old female that is the best pup trainer that ever was. She's lost a step or two and doesn't hear real well anymore. But she'll straighten out a hard check and keep it going and if she comes out and sits down next to you when a pup or young dog is barking. You can throw the juice to anyt...

Re: Building Your Own Trailer
I've seen a few made from old small boat trailers. If you can handle the fabrication and welding it seems that they make a good base to start with. And can be found fairly cheap if you look around.

Weir Creeks, not the fastest or the most flashy hounds out there. But get a few good ones and you can kill every rabbit or hare they get after. They don't need any help getting after them either.

Re: Is it Time For 10 Second Checks in Little Pack?
It's most likely a matter of time with the technology of today at some point GPS and tracking systems will be used in trial formats in some way. With the LP hounds of today if the time was shortened to 10 sec.how would anyone be able to stay up on them to score it unless they were on horse back. And t...

Re: Arched loins and hound speed
From what I've seen given the time, most grown rabbits will try to pull a trick or two to confuse their scent. The more they have been run the better they are at it and the less time they can be given.Over competitiveness is the fault I keep seeing show up in a lot of hounds today.I understand the nee...

Re: Arched loins and hound speed
There are dogs that run close as you specified and still run fast speed and catch one if it runs for very long without going to ground. What you described is a faulty wild dog and that is not a fast dog. Point is for some folks, only a slow or medium speed at best dog can run close and that is not ...

Re: Conformation in Mid-West hounds
The Mid-West isn't immune to buddy judging.I saw a 15 in. male get picked up in Berea for being afraid of a horse. He got out of the way when a judge ran up to him and skidded it to a stop.He wasn't leaving anything for the rest of the cast, the only problem was they left him down to long and everyone...

Chances are you'll be ok with her naming it.Gota be careful letting kids name them.I had a little male that got named Big Bird that way.He lived for over 13 yrs.My girls still laugh about it.

Re: Problem with a dog that digs...
Keep his toe nails trimmed good.If they are trimmed close it doesn't take much digging and they start to get sore and they quit.My dogs are worse for it in the summer if I forget and let their nails grow.
