Gus, I have seen what I'm talking about. If my dogs jump a doe rabbit in the spring or summer they have to gear down and realy work to run it, the doe will also stay close to the area where you jump it, if they jump a buck its hell bent ,good long runs that sometimes end up away from where it was ju...

Rimfire, I have the same thing happen in the spring running swampers. They may not run as far as a hare but they will go a long way and not come back, sometimes the dogs will be out of hearing and when I get to them they will be running the swamper. I think it is a buck out of his teritory having a ...

I think training has a LOT to do with how a dog hunts... I also bet that 90% of the good hunting dogs that ya'll have been talking about have F.C. Fish Creek Andy in there pedigre. I know that is a long way back but I have seen the hunt Andy has passed down. Name the dogs above with good hunt thad d...

Fuzz. you will have to turn the unit off before feeding! I DON"T forget anymore I don't like getting wet, I live in the country and have had 0 trouble with it going off except for dogs barking. I only use it with new dogs that bark, it don't take long for a dog to learn, and you can direct the water...

;) I talked with a man that trains dogs for police work (dutch sheperds). He said the key to training is to not give the dog a chance to not do what you want, use the long check cord, and give postive feedback. Cut up hot dogs in SMALL chunks. Don't work the dog too long but do it often. P.S. After ...

I ask my dad what dog he liked best of all the dogs he has seen run a rabbit (we live in Alabama) my dad is 86 years old and was a field marshel at spo trials when he was 78 and can still stay close enough to a pack to see what is going on. By the way his name is Frank Thompson Jr. Back to the best ...

I think Gus said a lot. I have seen beaglers buy good dogs and run them with wild and crazy dogs and the new dog would soon be running wild and crazy. I have also watched these dogs turn around and make good dogs when a beagler with a good pack got one of these dogs. A great beagler told me to run a...

I have read some great stuff on this thread... Alabama John; Two things we can know about a dog that consistently comes to a 90 degree turn and doesn't overrun. One, it is accurate and has a good nose and two, it is SLOOOOOW! I like fast dogs so around here, Little Pack is preferred, and some PP pac...
