The red color lightens as it meets the white. Like I said, there are 3 different, distinct colors on the pups-white and 2 different shades of red. I'll see if my buddy can get some pictures posted for me ( I don't have that capability yet)

Removing dew claws

I was taught to take them off when the pups are 2-3 days old. Fingernail clippers work- you don't necessily need surgical scissors.
It doesn't seem to hurt the pups much, and there is little-if any- bleeding. You can hardly tell the next day that there was anything there.
