Sorry to disagree with you, but Michigan does not have a state wide leash law, however we all take a chance on losing our beagles every time out.

Up here in the Alpena area it was bad until we got 3 inches of fresh snow last Friday. The running should be pretty decent right now.

Good luck with your pups, and it's good to see you have those young fellers started on the right track too. Way to go.

My very first dog was a beagle basset cross that my dad got me as a pet...he was a pet until my dad came home from work one afternoon and the dog was running a rabbit, lol. I wish I had a whole kennel full that could run like that little guy could.

Well, I have never trialed so I consider myself to be just a plain old rabbit hunter. I have yet to shoot a daily limit, or a season limit, and I don't know if I want to eat that many, lol. I'm happy with some good running, but I do shoot some bunnies as well.

I think as long as your dogs act like they are ready to go when you are, they should be fine. Just pay attention to how they act, it's usually a good indication that they might need a day off.

Re: started

I normally get about $300 for a started pup7 - 10 months old, they are always well started and running in the wild before i sell them. Most of them handle really well and probably have had a deer treatment or two. If they make it to 1 year old at my house they will probably go up to about 400-500 d...

Last January I went to watch a 13 month old female run, and bought her for $250. She's AKC registered, and has been doing a real nice job for me. If the pup is supposed to be started, go see what it does before buying if you can.

ked wrote What I am saying is that a breeder should be as responsible as they can to breed for healthy, strong, using dogs. Part of that is knowing that a dog as a pup had the will to survive. That is hard for a beginer especially if the previous breeder did not watch for these traits. I think this...
