I'm not sure if this applies or not, and I'm glad all of your pups are accounted for, but if this would happen again, I would keep an extra close watch on your female. We've had friends (two totally unrelated situations) where pups got hung up coming out, ended up dying and becoming toxic. The femal...

Thank you for your response. I know Jack hasn't been on the Prednisone that long, but it seems as though some days are better than others. This morning, for example, he was jumping and leaping (despite my efforts to calm him) at me to feed him. Who knows what this evening I'll find when I return hom...

Herniated Disc

We have an old male (he's at least 12 years old, possibly older) and just found out from the vet that he has a herniated disc in his neck. The vet gave him a steroid shot to reduce swelling and he was fine... for a day. Then he started with the neck spasms and crying out in pain. He's on Prednisone ...

HOT SPOTS????

We have six beagles, one retired, 4 currently being run at least once a week, and one on hiatus due to surgery. My question is this: Days after running, I noticed spots on the dogs' ears, legs, chest area about the size of the top of a pencil eraser. Some have scabbed over, some are raw, and some ha...

I think it would be best to leave her at home- you never know what you'll run into in the woods. Also, maybe my dogs are just goofy, but my females do care when another is in heat- they play at going at each other and climbing all over one another. So, like I said, maybe mine are just weird. My poin...

Abscess

We have been trying (unsuccessfully) for almost two months to rid our dog of an abscess on her side. The vet feels it was caused by a foreign object- she has been on two rounds of antibiotics (now on her third.) The vet lanced it last week, and advised us to rinse it out daily with a syringe- once w...

Well, the area has definitely gone down in its swelling. There are still some "hard" spots, though. I guess the vet was right- it was an abscess. She even popped it a few times on her own, and lots of reddish fluid came out. She's definitely feeling like her old self, though. My husband took her hun...

Seems like the lump is "coming to a head." As I mentioned before, I've been putting hot compresses on it, trying to get it to pop. This female (along with her mom and sister who we also have) makes a really good hunting pack. We've got to get her ready to go! PA rabbit season starts soon! Also, as a...

Boomer- The website you directed me to was very interesting. The one shot of the six-week old pup reminds me a lot of Peanut when she was that age. Our vet is very reasonably priced- I wish my husband would look at it that way. (Not that any price is too large when it comes to our dogs, though.) Her...

Hey, Patch-
Was the lump/bump hard or soft?
This one seems to be hard in some spots and mushy in others.
P.S. Thanks for the post.

tennis ball-sized lump

It seems like I'm always writing about the health problems of one of my females. She's not even 2 years old yet and already she's riddled with problems of one kind or another. Well, this time, I noticed she was real lethargic one Sunday evening. She hadn't been run in a week, so I was pretty sure th...

Well, after a week of giving oral antibiotics, she slowly seemed to be returning to normal. Her appetite increased and she seemed to be in better spirits. I still kept her away from the other dogs, though. Little by little, her health improved. She seems back to her old self now, eating, playing, ba...

I don't know much about congestive heart failure/problems. My female is only 18 months old. Could this (heart problems) be a genetic defect of some type? How would/could I find out?

P.S. The vet did 2 different types of blood tests for heartworm.
