Re: Video: Turning Rabbit Hunting Dog Into A Trial Dog?
well I wasn't going to post my opinion as normally, I don't. I usually just read and shake my head, at some of the post on this board. But, harry snow if slow mouthy dogs are ruining this breed. So are all the guys breeding them tight mouth, hot nosed dogs. Nothing I hate more then watching a dog ta...

Re: Too much nose or not enough brains?
running in fresh snow, and running in crap month old crust snow, in single digits is a lot different. The problem with talking about nose power, on this board, is that everyone considers nose power differently. it's all in what you have experienced, for some, what they call a big nose dog, is averag...

Re: Feedback on Snow Run Boone and Muskie Lake Eli?? Thanks!
I have never seen either of them run. But all 6 of my hounds go back to that blood. My roy dog is a great grand son to Boone. all the the females he has been breed to are grand pups to eli. In my opinion, they will have above average to real good snow noses. with good brains, seems to be a constant ...

Re: snowshoe trip! 12/8/12-12/9/12
It sure was a good time!!! anytime I get to run hounds with my dad I really enjoy myself. Rick pretty much summed up the trip. There was know shortage of running. Mostly a shortage of motivation to shot the hare. The eight month old pups probably impressed me the most. especially on there splits, we...

Re: Breeding for NOSE POWER
http://snowmanbeagles.com Snowman claims his hounds are snow hounds. Never met someone that runs his blood. All my hounds go back to his old blood!!! I haven't tried breeding too or getting a hound out of some of the newer outcross he has brought into his kennel. But a close friend of mind and myse...

Re: what ever happened to the $150 pup
Well I should probably start with I dont trial. But anyone who thinks guys that dont trial dont feed and hunt the quality of a fc or better. that dont need excuses made for their rabbit dog ability. then you are pretty naive. I have quit a few friends that run trials and I respect them for how much ...

Re: The evolution of a houndsman
i'm curious Augerhead have you always been in hounds since a child or is this sport something you picked up as an adult? The only reason I ask is that most that pick this sport up as an adult with little to know guidance go through what you went through. I have meant many people who start out and ar...

Gwyoung--It sounds like you have bought every talking point of the far right talking heads. You need to remember most of the talking heads of the far right and left are in it to make a buck ,by creating controversy (ratings). Jwagner-- I have a sence of humor, but your joke is in poor taste . Have a...

Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
See low explain to me how a dog making forward progress on a hot line not barking has nothing to do with nose power. I will tell you what I have seen in all the years I have been rabbit hunting. A dog that is really tight mouthed when conditions are ideal and makes a lot of forward progress with out...

Re: extra barking on a rabbit track..
I don't like a dog that comes off the tailgate barking or a dog that barks all over a check or what you call grubbing. But if they got the line and are moving out they better be pouring out the mouth. To me that dog walking out the line making forward progress and not barking is a fault/lack of nose...

Re: How bout Hunt Question?
Well RAD you brought up a whole other topic desire to find a rabbit. He asked why dogs that show desire or hard flashy hunt couldn't find rabbits. To me it shows a lack of nose. I agree a dog can jump rabbits with an average nose if they have a high motor and cover a lot of ground to do it. notice I...

Re: How bout Hunt Question?
You can't find what you can't smell. Nose power has a lot to do with jumping rabbits IMO.
