Re: Anyone Dove hunting this labor day
Not me. Unfortunately dove hunting isn't allowed in Iowa where so much corn exists. If anyone knows why not please let me know because it's a mystery to me. Thanks, Dan You mean to tell me you guys are NOT allowed to dove hunt in Iowa????????????? That should be one of the most productive dove plac...

Re: What is the AVG. cost a year to own beagles?
I got torqued off at my vet's office help a few weeks ago. I knew what kind of worm my dog had and I wanted the medicine to treat it. They wouldn't sell me the medicine without having me bring in a stool sample first so they could verify what I was saying was true and so they could CHARGE ME 18 BUCK...

Re: anybody doin any squirrel huntin
Are some of you guys really talking about ticks or chiggers? It sounds more like chiggers to me. Big difference. In May I almost lost my mother to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. You need to be aware of ticks. On the other hand, I've come in from my hay fields and gotten 15 or more ticks crawling arou...

Re: anybody doin any squirrel huntin
Here the season begins on 8/30. I haven't been squirrel hunting since we moved in '06. I have access to about 300 acres and can't wait to get the lay of the land figured out. I have a gun on its way that should get here next week so I can get used to using it just in time for squirrel and rabbit sea...

Re: Got surrounded by coyote's (I think)
We were sitting on the back porch Friday night with the dogs. We began hearing yipping and howling from a pack of coyotes. It sounded like 5 or more. A neighbor to the South has sheep and straight across the road in front of the house to the North the neighbor has cattle. It sounded like the coyotes...

Re: QUESTION ABOUT CATCHING WILD RABBITS?
I use a commercially made wire mesh type box traps. I got some for less money than the wood would cost to make them. Google for rabbit traps and you'll see some sets of plans to make your own box traps out of boards. My dad and brother used to make box traps and catch rabbits. Now and then I've been...

Re: Combination guns - am I nuts?
Last night I bought a Savage 24S-E combination gun in .22LR/20ga. It's from the 1970's and looks pretty nice from the pictures on gunbroker.com and the description in the emails. I should get it in a week or so. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=107265260 That will be my squirrel gu...

Re: What's your opinion of .22lr vs .22wmr?
I'm not sure what would happen but I'm guessing bad things. I could get the same gun chambered for .223 Remington so I could reach out and touch a coyote now and then. I read where you can get 2 adapters so you can shoot .22 LR and .22 WMR in a .223 Remington gun. Not sure how well they work but sin...

Re: What's your opinion of .22lr vs .22wmr?
Good! I've never owned a gun for that cartridge so I thought I would ask. My idea of the .22 wmr goes along with what you guys are saying. I found a really nice used gun but it's chambered for the .22 wmr instead of the .22 lr. I'd like to have it but I have no use for it. I'll have to pass on this ...

What's your opinion of .22lr vs .22wmr?
For squirrels and rabbits what's your opinion of .22lr vs .22wmr?
I have a half-baked opinion on the subject but since I have no experience with the .22wmr I want to see what others say.
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Would a Stevens 94C in 16 gauge make a good rabbit gun?
I'm finding plenty of 16 ga shells (and new 16 ga guns) nearby. Wal-Mart is about 2 blocks from work and Scheels is about 6 blocks from work. I found slugs too but I don't want to put slugs through this gun. I suspect it's either a full or modified choke and I'm leaning towards thinking it's full. O...

Used. I think they began making them around the '50's or '60's and quit in the '80's. ???
They had a 94 model before that.

Re: Combination guns - am I nuts?
I hope you're right Denny. I bought a box of shells today and plan on testing it out tonight. If all goes well I'm buying some more shells tomorrow. The gun is tight. It's not been used much at all. It's not a 'new in box' type of gun but it's got character without showing any signs of abuse. It has...

Re: Combination guns - am I nuts?
I passed on getting a nice double barrel shotgun and got a very nice ~50 year old Stevens 94C 16 gauge break-open single shot with 28" barrel. Call me a cheapskate. I just couldn't see spending all that money on a beautiful double gun that I'll scratch up the first day out in the field. The Stevens ...
