I agree, a band works very easy. you could get them at you local farm and tractor store. I have seen it done severl times and never heard of any problems. Put the band around the nearest joint in the tail closest to the spot you want to dock. I have seen tails docked up to leaving only a few inches,...

He is 15" male, I judged him at Gogebic Range last sept... Jack Silvernale and I put a win on him there, I think the class size was 46. He was pretty nice running dog, knew where the end was as well as the check(stayed better the most of the dogs in the class). He wasnt the hardest hitting dog in th...

Hunting Horns
Hunting horns... Does anybody still use them? In the past I know that they where popular with houndsman calling in their dogs after a hunt. I was also told that the dogs could tell the difference between horns, and would learn to respond to the correct one. I have been thinking of using a horn, sinc...

Lets stick to hunting dogs, half the dogs (half is conservative) being mentioned on the field trial post are strickly trial dogs that owners would never dream of being taken outside a fence. It's too bad these people that says there dogs can do it under any condition only trial and not hunt....bucky w...

Pete to answer your question, I would take FC Timberline Sweet Caroline. The conditions that you described I would want a dog the excels on snow and in cold temps. They would need nose, brains, gears and guts as well as the desire to do what ever it takes to bring the rabbit around. Although she ear...

lost / stolen dogs
A friend just sent this link to me and thought it might help someone. A few weeks ago federal officials served a warrant on a dog 'buncher' in Arkansas who has been stealing dogs for years for the purpose of selling them to research. Approx. 200 dogs were seized. USDA is trying to find the owners of...

Northway Male
Guys, just my two sense. I judged a very nice Northway breed hound in a few trials. FC Graet Bear Woody. A 13 -13 1/4 male, Runns strait, always in control of the line and knows where the check is. Gave him a second in a spo on cottontail trial in one of the nicest winners packs I ever have had the ...
