Re: Importance of Good Bite??
Depends on how bad the bite is. I wouldn't worry too much about it, if it is slight. Just make sure that they other dog you are breeding has a long line of good bites in its pedigree. I've bred one with a slight under bite. All of the pups had a perfect scissor bite. The next generation out of those...

Re: Tryin your advice what do you think of this plan(mya Tri
I also agree with Bunny Blaster. I don't beat dogs. If they are running trash, I burn them up with the collar until they are screaming, flopping, and headed my way. When they get there, I pet them and ask "What's wrong? Did that deer get you?" Enforcing a command only works at the instant the dog is...

Re: Tryin your advice what do you think of this plan(mya Tri
You are putting way too much thought into this. I would encourage you to run the dog with some that will chase off game, and make sure she is broke. Other than that, you are planning like you are training an olympic athlete. Just run your dog, enjoy it, take it to some different formats of trial to ...

Buffalo Rabbit Wings Get a bottle of Frank's Red Hot sauce and follow the instructions on the back of the bottle for chicken wings. I soak in milk, dredge in flour, then deep fry. Take a bottle of Frank's Red hot, and mix with 1 stick of melted butter. After about 10 minutes in the deep fry, pull th...

Re: How much running time does it take to "Compete" in trial
ARHA little pack dogs that I have seen and judged tend to be hard hitting, fast dogs, that usually don't run really clean on a line. They aren't penalized for missing the line, so you tend to get some dogs that are very competitive and "run the front at all costs" even if they can't run the track at...

Re: How much running time does it take to "Compete" in trial
Your dog will do fine, just don't expect it to win. Running 1 hour at a time this time of year is no big deal. If they get into a big running rabbit (one that ranges way out), your dog may not have the speed to keep up with an ARHA Little Pack style pack. However, if your dog is a little older it wi...

Re: 2 Reggie's and Counting!!!!!!
I hope Reggie puts as much of himself as Turbo put into his pups.
First generation Turbo dogs are some of the consistently strong dogs I have seen run.
I have not seen as many second generation Turbo dogs run, so I can only hope that those Turbo traits he passed along carry on.

Re: Shocking systems used in LP
Anytime there is competition, people will cheat. I enjoyed trials. I got to meet some fine people, got to see lots of dogs run in lots of different conditions. That really made realize what I want in a dog, and what I don't want. However, there is a portion of people that go trials that have the att...

Re: Shocking systems used in LP
Like i or not, shock collars are here to stay and field trials should integrate them into the sport in some form... My new dog has never ran off game on me and has even turned it down when other dogs were going after it but she still wears a collar because it JUST MAKES SENSE.. Why risk the hassle ...

Re: Running a Rabbit Silent?
Keep running him, he should open more as he gets older.
If not, he is a cull.
There is little use to a rabbit dog that doesn't give tongue during the chase.
I've had some that didn't mouth much at that age, as they got older they started using their mouth correctly.

Re: Shocking systems used in LP
LP needs to put into affect if a dog sits around and does not hunt the dog needs to be put on clock and when the time runs out scratched... That rule is already in effect. Section G, Item 5 on Page 16 http://www.arha.com/littlepack/LP%20RULES%202007.pdf 6. If the hound refuses to hunt the first 30 ...

Re: How much running time does it take to "Compete" in trial
The answer is "You need to run them often enough that they are in peak physical condition". I've seen many dogs that ran out out of gas because they were out of shape and you get some really good running. They will start off strong and 15 minutes in to it, you can see them slacking off. The other ex...

Re: Blackpowder loads for Rabbits?
If I remember correctly the standard load is 65 grains of FFG. I would start out around there behind an ounce and an 1/8 of shot. I shoot a 10 ga, with 90 gra FFg or FFFg and 1 1/2 ounce shot. However, mine is not choked so it doesn't pattern well. If I had a choked gun, I could probably cut it back...
