Re: Run to catch
One last thing for now I want to leave you with. Many of you who will see this know Daddy Rabbit A.K.A. Aubrey Holcomb down in north Ga. Daddy Rabbit has been around since the founding days of the A.R.H.A. and is in their Hall of fame. I first met Daddy Rabbit probably 25 years ago at a Little Pack ...

Re: Run to catch
Back in mid October I made the 1,100 mile trek up to central New Hampshire to my friend Bob Ferranti's house and then the two of us plus his son Ryan and a friend of ours Paul Rzeczycki drove another 160 miles north up along the Canadian border for our annual week of hare hunting. We ended up buckin...

Re: Run to catch
Haven't been on here in quite a while. See not too much has changed or if it has they're not talking about it.I see where several of the other Beagle sites I take a look at stay pretty constant with hound chat. Some pretty interesting and some other not so much.Wonder why this forum doesn't get much...

Re: Fencing in acreage?
Thirty years ago I bought enough apron wire fencing plus the same number of short rolls to add for top fencing to make a six foot fence to fence approximately 7-8 acres. I can't remember how many rolls it was but remember paying $1,500.00 for the wire at that time. Then there was the cost of some ir...

Re: Naturally Straight Rabbit Dogs
Budd Got to tell you this story. Back in the '70's I had a nice young Vaughn bred female Bluetick coon hound. She started early, went to locating and treeing making it look easy. Treed a bunch of coons with her her first year. As a young hound she had a peculiar habit. She'd be out in front of us hunt...

Re: Naturally Straight Rabbit Dogs
I don't know if you could consider them "naturally straight" but I've owned several that never ran any off game. I can recall several dogs that ran off game one time and I was able to shock and stop them that first time and they never offered to run off game again. I'm a firm believer of when you st...

Re: East TN Hunters
Hey Brian Ya, I'm still running my beagles. Haven't been to a field trial in a long time. Been there and done that I guess. Had a total knee replacement back in mid March and have been recovering and getting it in shape for the season. Getting better every day but not in any hurry to run in this hea...

Re: Not Running
I haven't been running. Most of the reason is that back in late March I had a total knee replacement and recovery has not been as quick as I had imagined. I've turned the girls lose four times in the last 3 1/2 months. I've had to go to spots where I can walk on a gravel farm road or sit on the tail...

Re: AKC Help …..
I've never heard that a sperm sample was required. I do believe that if the male is 12 or over that he must be D.N.A.'d for the litter to be registered.

Re: Running hounds in the summer
For all of my 50 years of running hounds I always have run year round. In New Hampshire running the coon hounds and/or beagles at night during the summer months was never an issue. Once the sun went down in the mountains the temps would cool off pretty good and poisonous snakes are barely an issue i...

Re: Run to catch
Hey Ken. Good to hear from you. I don't know why I had so much problem for a while trying to log on and post on this forum. I'd posted on here for years as Shady Grove Beagles and then all of a sudden it started telling me that my user name was wrong. Had to open a new account and used my own name. ...

Re: Run to catch
Good to hear from you Ron and thanks for reaching out. Boredom was settling in for both me and the hounds. They've been getting noisy in the pen and I've read about a dozen books. My wife volunteered to go with me if I wanted to turn the dogs out for a while. She must really love me cause she doesn'...

Re: Run to catch
Just posting a pic of my old girls. Had a total knee replacement 5 weeks ago and making progress but still not ready to go out and tackle the woods yet. Two weeks pushing a walker, two weeks using a cane and now getting around on my own but still being careful. Not ready for climbing fences, crossing ...
