Chris, I can receive E-mail but can't reply and no one seems to be able to fix it. Hard to diagnose without seeing the settings on your e-mail client. Your Internet Service Provider should be able to quickly and easily walk through it with you and diagnose the problem. It might be worth your while ...

I have a very solid male right now that I wish would get bred to some top females as I believe he's producing some excellent snow hounds but I have only 2 females worthy of breeding that are still in their breeding years and he's now 10 years old. Despite his excellent trial record, no one seems in...

Re: shyness is mostly individual personality
I have a female that will hunt all day and night if you let her and she has good tongue, she is not going to mouth off line or skirt or anyother undesirable things BUT she is very shy, afraid of stang dogs, people any thing scares her. now you would get rid of her??? In a heartbeat. :) Some things I...

If the rabbit is lost for a moment at point A and two dogs are running, what is more impressive the hound that stays and picks up the line at point A or the rabbit the picks it up at point B. That depends on how far from point A point B is. That's why I asked you to define it. I wouldn't condone a ...

It is my idea that a hound should 9 times out of 10 get the check from the point of loss. A reach is only acceptable when it appears that the rabbit has been lost, or no hound could pick it up from the point of loss. So then the hound that has to reach out and save the run should be credited in bot...

Chris, do you want your hounds to reach? or would you want them to pick it up from point of loss? Ideally I'd like them to pick it up from dead on the point of loss, but run a dog on hare enough and the dog learns that 9 times out of 10 the hare went somewhere in front of them they'll reach a bit f...

I live in Mid-Michigan and run cottontail during the week and hare on weekends. I prefer to start my pups on cottontail, but have them running hare by 8 months. As much as the bloodlines get mixed these days, I dont think you can say there is that big of difference. Many of the FC dogs around here ...

If I had to categorize it, I would say the hounds that do well in UKC would be the Tweeners, (or cleaner LP dogs). They need the foot to score high in the speed and drive, but if they aren't on the line when they come through with the rabbit, they won't get any score at all. Enough of that will get...

Re: HANGS UP IN CHECK AREA
While running with the pack this young female about 1 and a half old will hang up in the check area about 50 percent of the time. You can give her plenty of time solo to gain confidence, and that might help her. But, some dogs simply lack talent and they are what they are. Time will tell you. If/wh...

Re: Dogs Getting Faster!
Could it be that you are the only one in this conversation that is running his dogs on hare which circle like a dang fox and don't give the dogs much of a break? A smart dog in time will learn to pace himself on game that runs fast and long. ;) Could be, I guess. Hadn't thought of that. Probably di...

I think that only the good dogs should be used for breeding regardless of thier pedigree. That's quite a subjective statement, isn't it? What one guy thinks is 'good' might be a total cull to another guy. Puppy mills are definitely no good. :( If someone's breeding Beagles without hunting...
